California) Ground views of The Ivanpah Solar Fields throughout the day from morning to sunset. The Ivanpah Electric Generating System is a concentrated solar thermal plant stretching into Mojave Desert, across state lines (Nevada and California). At sunset the last rays of the sun illuminate the hills which border the desert. Wide shots of traffic along the highway which cuts through the desert Footage shows various wide, medium and close ups of the solar fields and transmission lines. 00:00:50 - Good shot of sign on side of road ""Welcome to The Heart of the Mojave"" ""Pulic lands Managed by Needles Field Office"" Limited Use Area, Vehicle Use allowed only on signed open roads - no cross country travel. HOW THE EARTH WAS BORN
Titles read: "How the Earth was born. Throughout the ages, Man has tried to visualize the creation of the world. One of the theories of today is the "Tidal Theory" - so let us see what took place (according to modern science) on our planet in the dawn of the universe - ".

Various diagrams and pictures accompany this educational (American) commentary, explaining the Tidal Theory of how the earth and other planets in our solar system were created. The general gist of it is that a star passing close to the sun caused immense tidal agitation which led to the formation of the planets.

PLANETARIUM
The new Chicago planetarium, United States of America.

Full title reads: "Planetarium - the strange apparatus that projects the entire solar system on to a dome."

L/S of the Chicago Planetarium silhouetted against the sky as the sun goes down. Low angle shot of part of the planetarium equipment moving slowly - the device for projecting the solar system. "There are more stars in this artificial heaven than in all Hollywood and Broadway combined" states the narrator. Another shot of the space age projector contraption moving. Shot of the imitation night sky. It moves around.

L/S of the projection device which throws a large shadow up onto the wall as it moves. Closer view of the mechanism. The narrator describes how the projector moves in the correct way to represent the movements of all the constellations in the universe.

Doctor Philip Fox (sp?) is the man "behind the stars". We see a man operating the mechanism and using a light device to point out various parts of the solar system. The narrator says that he "runs the universe and at will, can stop or start any planet that Chicago owns. Doctor Fox moves very quickly as he operates all the switches.

Narrator explains more about how the planetarium projector works. Various shots of the projector and of the stars and planets as they appear on the dome. Narrator ends with a joke about courting couples liking to visit the planetarium for a "liberal education."

SOLAR SYSTEM NEWSER (04/21/1998)
Three independent astronomy teams have simultaneous evidence of a forming new solar system. A star NASA identifies as "H-R-47-96" is enveloped in disks of dust similar to the way Earth formed over 4-billion-years-ago. The findings will also be published in Wednesday's issue of the journal of Nature.
New Horizons space probe at Pluto
Animation of the New Horizons space probe as it passes the dwarf planet Pluto and its largest moon Charon. New Horizons was launched in January 2006, and arrives at Pluto on 14th July 2015. It was the fastest object ever launched from Earth. It will speed past Pluto at a closest distance of some 10,000 kilometres, traveling at velocity of nearly 14 kilometres per second relative to the dwarf planet. It will spend the time around its closest approach mapping the surface of Pluto and Charon, studying their atmospheres (if any) and trying to analyse the chemical make-up of the bodies. After passing Pluto, New Horizons will continue into the Kuiper Belt, and if suitable bodies on its path are found, study those as well.
Launching of SNAP (Systems Nuclear Auxiliary Power) 9A generators in space.
Rocket carrying SNAP (Systems Nuclear Auxiliary Power) 9A generator is launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. SNAP-9A generator in space center and men working. By animation it is explained how satellite operations are carried out in space by making use of chemical and solar energies but with limitations. It is further explained how SNAP-9A generators work by means of nuclear energy. Animated versions of Thermocouple and Radioisotopes are shown. Shows Atomic Energy Commission men working and Nuclear generators installed at two different sites on earth. Location: California United States USA. Date: September 1963.
