Performance - 'I'm Every Woman', Chaka Khan MS DYNAMITE, ASHANTI & JA RULE PICK UP TOP MOBOS MS DYNAMITE joined American stars ASHANTI and JA RULE as the big winners of last night's Mobo Awards The British R'n'B sensation won a hat-trick of prizes was including UK Act of the Year, Best Newcomer, while her first hit 'It Takes More' was named Single of the Year. The award for best R 'n' B Act went to Ashanti, while US rapper Ja Rule picked up Best Hip Hop Act - and drove fans wild with his raunchy performance. But it was Ms Dynamite's night, again. Just a fortnight ago she hit the big time when she landed the highly-regarded Mercury title for debut album 'A Little Deeper'. That release missed out on the Best Album prize to US performer Alicia Keys, who was rewarded for her worldwide smash 'Songs In A Minor'. Ms Dynamite - real name Niomi Daley - from Kentish Town, north London, had been nominated for six titles at the annual ceremony which celebrates music of black origin. She was among the performers at the show at London Arena, wowing fans with the garage MC-ing skills that first got her an audience. Many of the top prizes were grabbed by overseas acts but Britain's haul included a best garage prize for Mis-Teeq, whose singer Alesha Dixon was hosting the awards alongside US rapper LL Cool J. Two late stars cast their presence over the ceremony when Aaliyah and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes were given posthumous prizes. Aaliyah - killed in a plane crash last year - took the Best Video title for 'More Than A Woman', while TLC member Lopes, killed in a car crash this year, was given an Outstanding Achievement award. During her lifetime, Lopes scored seven top 20 hits in the UK with her band, featured on Mel C's number one 'Never Be The Same Again' and had a solo hit. Acclaimed US act Norah Jones - whose father is Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar - took the Best Jazz Act prize. Soul diva Chaka Khan, who scored hits fronting the band Rufus before going solo and having a UK number one with 'Prince's I Feel For You', took the Lifetime Achievement award. Gay campaigners mounted a small protest outside the venue as guests arrived after being upset by the inclusion of acts on the shortlist which they said had homophobic lyrics. Campaigners OutRage! were disturbed that Elephant Man, T.O.K. and Capleton were up for the Best Reggae prize. The prize actually went to Sean Paul. The Mastercard Mobo Awards are to be screened by Channel 4 on Thursday. The full list of winners is as follows: Best R&B act - Ashanti. Best video - Aaliyah. Best hip-hop act - Ja Rule. Best reggae act - Sean Paul. Best garage act - Mis-Teeq. Best gospel act - Michelle Williams. Best jazz act - Norah Jones. Best world music act - Angelique Kidjo. Best producer - Neptunes. SOUNDBITE (English) Alicia Keys - on inducting Prince: "For everybody tonight, for me my favourite has to be Prince, I have to say that I am honoured to be the one inducting him in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. To be able to take that story away with me and tell my grand children years from now that I was the one that inducted Prince in to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is something very unforgettable and I am very happy to be here." 17. Set up shot Kid Rock 18. SOUNDBITE (English): Kid Rock - on inducting Bob Seger: "I think in his own words he is the beautiful loser, he''s the most under-rated singer and songwriter of our generation. You never see him pulling publicity scams or anything to get his music played. His songs always did the talking. Those songs are so powerful, all of them. The calibre of them is tremendous." SOUNDBITE (English) Prince acceptance speech: "All preys and thanks to the most high Jehovah. Thank you Alicia, Andre and Big Boi, much respect to you all. Thank you Hall Of Fame, this is definitely an honour. I don''t want to take up too much time but I would like to say this. When I first started out in this music industry I was most concerned with freedom, freedom to produce, freedom to play all the instruments on my records and freedom to say anything that I wanted to and after much negotiation Warner Bros records granted me that freedom and I thank them for that. A real friend and mentor cares for your soul as much as they do their own, this world and it''s wicked system will become harder and harder to deal with without a real friend and a mentor. I wish all of you the best on this fascinating journey, it aint over. Peace." 22. Traffic performance 23. Mick Jagger introduces Jann Wenner, Founder Rolling Stone Magazine 24. SOUNDBITE (English) Jann Wenner acceptance speech: "I started Rolling Stone in 1967 when I was 21 and I was a real hoped up rock and roll fanatic living in San Francisco. When I was a little kid I can remember laying under my blankets at night and listening to a radio set and listening to Heartbreak Hotel and a particular favourite was Buddy Holly Party Doll, Come Along With Me When I Am Feeling Wild." 25. Bruce Springsteen introduces Jackson Browne 26. Jackson Browne performance ''Running on Empty'' 27. Robert Townsend introduces The Dells 28. The Dells acceptance speech 29. Performance ''While My Guitar Gently Weeps'' with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, Prince, Steve Winwood 36. All Star Jam/Finale '' Feeling Alright'' song by Joe Cocker, lyrics by Dave Mason HALL OF FAME ENVELOPED IN PURPLE HAZE Prince burst into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with some blistering funk, joined by the regional stew of Bob Seger''s heartland rock, ZZ Top''s Texas boogie and Jackson Browne''s California smoothness. George Harrison became the third ex-Beatle inducted for his solo work. British jam band Traffic and the ''50s harmony group the Dells were also honoured. It was clearly Prince''s night, though, as he opened the Monday night ceremony with a trio of 1980s hits and came out later to upstage Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Harrison''s son, Dhani, on ''While My Guitar Gently Weeps.'' Dressed in a white suit and displaying nimble dance steps, Prince performed three songs that caught the breadth of his work: the rock anthem ''Let''s Go Crazy,'' the topical ''Sign O'' the Times'' and funk groove of ''Kiss.'' A restless perfectionist, the Minneapolis-based singer often played every instrument on his discs. He said he was preoccupied early in his career with maintaining his freedom. Bruce Springsteen inducted Jackson Browne, noting with some jealousy that while he and his E Street Band usually drew an audience filled with men - and not particularly good-looking men - Browne was a magnet for women. Springsteen called Browne a "bona fide rock ''n'' roll sex star." Browne co-wrote ''Take it Easy'' for the Eagles, then was successful on his own with ''Doctor My Eyes,'' ''The Pretender'' and ''Running on Empty,'' chronicling the turn of the 1960s utopian dream into the cynical ''70s. Fellow Michigan singer Kid Rock inducted Bob Seger, calling him one of music''s most overlooked performers. In the Detroit area, Seger is God, Rock said. Seger brought up his Silver Bullet Band for their first public performance in nine years. They sang ''Turn the Page'' and the wedding staple, ''Old Time Rock ''n'' Roll.'' Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, two fellow members of the Traveling Wilburys, were on hand to salute Harrison. The guitarist joins John Lennon and Paul McCartney as Beatles also honored for their solo work. Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner also received a lifetime achievement award, from another rolling stone, lead singer Mick Jagger. Meanwhile, Jagger''s bandmate Keith Richards was on hand to welcome hirsute blues-rockers ZZ Top into the Hall of Fame. The Dells, a vocal harmony quintet that hit with ''Oh What a Night'' in 1955, were the inspiration for the film ''The Five Heartbeats.'' With only one personnel change, a group formed in high school is still performing together more than 50 years later. Dells member Chuck Barksdale said he hoped the hall would open its doors to other vocal groups, like the O''Jays, the Manhattans and the Whispers.
