Magna Carta recorded in 5D nanostructured glass. Footage of optoelectronics researcher Peter Kazansky (born 1956) holding a 5D data storage disc that has been etched with a recording of the Magna Carta. The round quartz glass disc has been modified by an ultrafast (femtosecond) laser (in background) to produce patterned layers of nanostructured dots and gratings. The 3D position of the dots, as well as the size and orientation, results in five dimensions of information encoding. The optical and thermal stability of the quartz means that the digital data recorded by this method will last for over 13 billion years. Each disc has a capacity of 360 terabytes. The technology is known as 'Superman memory crystal'. The Magna Carta of 1215, the Great Charter of English liberties, established the principle that the King was subject to the law and limited the power he had over his barons. The 800th anniversary of this charter was celebrated in 2015. Footage filmed in 2016 at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton, UK.

Dramatization: Young U.S. Navy recruits in training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. The recruits undergo various training exercises. Dramatization shows a group of recruits working as teams to climb a wall. A recruit runs through a semaphore training exercise and toward barracks. He reads from a paper and announces permission has been granted for the recruits to go fishing. The recruits in uniform on fishing boats at sea. New recruits joke around standing on the boat. Two recruits slip a fish down the shirt of a fellow recruit. A recruit (played by George Reeves - later "Superman") points to several Destroyers and mistakenly calls them Battleships. Another recruit points out a submarine. A commanding officer points out the view of North Island Naval Base, and the port and downtown area of San Diego. The recruits are fishing. An officer asks an enlisted man to pick up a blue tackle box and he picks up a yellow one instead. Location: San Diego California USA. Date: 1940.

Finally they pose, trying to keep up a cheesy smile for the camera . A training film about the role of U.S. Navy sailors aboard in the United States. An enactment shows the importance and role of a sailor during a standing watch. Sailors seated in a room as an officer gives instructions about standing watch. A list containing name of officers on duty for standing watch. A sailor named Elmer comes to relieve another sailor from standing watch. The sailor thinks of going off to sleep during the watch but he also thinks of the punishment in case he gets caught sleeping while on standing watch. Elmer leans against a wall and goes off to sleep. The Petty Officer comes in for inspection and Elmer gets up well in time and reports to the officer. Elmer thinks of smoking a cigarette. The Petty officer comes in again to check and Elmer gets caught while smoking a cigarette. Elmer talks about the tough nature of standing watch to another sailor. An officer comes in and instructs the sailors about the do's and don'ts of standing watch. The officer speaks about the things to be done and how to stay awake during standing watch. Elmer reads a superman comic during another standing watch. Smoke rises from a barrack. Another sailor sleeps while on standing watch. A sailor detects the smoke and shouts. Men sleeping in the barrack get off their beds and rush down stairs. Men fight fire. The sailors lined up and an officer questions the men on standing watch. (World War II period). And here's an easy one...it's a bird, it's a plane, it's????? Yup, believe it or not, this blue skinned man with the white lightning bolts on his arms and legs, is the "new" Superman. His first "makeover" edition hit the shelves today...gone are the days of the red, blue and yellow get-up. And get this, the red cape is history. He doesn't need to anymore because with his "new look", apparently comes "new powers."
