Security surveillance camera video shows view from bank's front entrance, Smith at teller window and then tackled by customer STORYLINE: An alert bank customer in Wisconsin trying to protect his wife leaped over rope lines and wrestled a would-be robber to the ground. Surveillance video inside the Guardian Credit Union building in suburban Milwaukee caught the whole incident on camera on Tuesday from multiple angles. West Allis police said a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and mask handed notes to three tellers demanding money. The suspect, 23-year-old Senister Smith, shoved the money in a bag and was about to leave when he was tackled from behind by a man wearing a yellow shirt. The customer wrestled Smith to the floor and held him until police arrived because he said he feared for the safety of his wife who was standing near the suspect. Another teller helped subdue the robber, and a woman in the bank kicked him. Smith was charge with armed robbery.
Bank Robber Tackle (2009)
A 54-year-old man prevented a bank robbery Tuesday by tackling the suspect. It was all caught on tape. The alleged robber, Senister D. Smith, 21, is charged with armed robbery. The tape shows Smith entering Guardian Credit Union wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask. He hands each teller a note. Police say the notes demanded money and said he had a gun and would use it. That's when the customer sprang into action. Police have not released his name, but he jumped on top of Smith and held him down until police arrived. Authorities say he did so to protect his wife who was also in the bank at at 11220 W. Oklahoma Ave. The bank's president, Steve Wesson, says he's never seen anything like this. "We just can't thank him enough. He stepped up at a great time and thankfully no one was injured," Wesson said.
