THE BEST TEA MAY BE PRODUCED IN CHINA OR INDIA BUT THERE ARE FEW COUNTRIES WHICH ENJOY A NICE "CUPPA" MORE THAN ENGLAND. AND IN LONDON THERE'S ONE COMPANY WHICH HAS BEEN BREWING UP FOR MORE THAN 300 YEARS.\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "With or without milk it's your cup of tea and you must drink it how you like it and yes, a day without Earl Grey is not a good day!"\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "The company started when Thomas Twining bought an existing London coffee house at the back of this building, and within the city of London there were over 2000 coffee houses. So intense competition, so having trained in tea, he introduced fine quality tea to his coffee house as a point of difference."\nIN 1717 THOMAS TWINING OPENED THE COMPANY SHOP SELLING DRY TEAS. AT THAT TIME THE DRINK WAS AN EXPENSIVE LUXURY ITEM UNTIL 1784, WHEN RICHARD TWINING PERSUADED THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER TO SLASH THE TAX ON TEA - MAKING IT AFFORDABLE TO THE MASSES.\nTHREE YEARS LATER THE APOSTROPHE WAS DROPPED FROM "TWINING'S", CREATING THE WORLD'S OLDEST COMPANY LOGO WHICH HAS REMAINED IN CONTINUOUS USE.\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "We sell tea in 115 countries at the moment. We work with the local people to find out what the local tastes are. So in our portfolios of teas we have over 400."\nIN 1837 QUEEN VICTORIA GRANTED TWININGS A ROYAL WARRANT AND THE COMPANY HAS SUPPLIED EVERY BRITISH MONARCH SINCE THEN INCLUDING QUEEN ELIZABETH.\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "The most important thing. I think, for our tea tasters is for them to have the passion. Everybody in the company loves tea and particularly the master tea tasters. But yes, it does take time to build up those skills, to pick out the really subtle nuances within a tea."\nIN 1956 TWININGS JOINED A REVOLUTION IN TEA TECHNOLOGY - INTRODUCING ITS FIRST TEA BAGS, WHICH THE COMPANY CONTINUES TO MAKE AT ITS FACTORY IN ANDOVER NEAR LONDON.\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "Looking to the future we are obviously fiercely going to guard our reputation for quality but we are also looking at innovations. We are just launching a range of teas that that brew in cold water. It's very much moving with the times, we have been on trend, we think that's got a very strong future."\nStephen Twining, Brand Ambassador: "As a Twining working for 'Twinings' it's a very special feeling. I mean sitting here, we have got the portraits with Thomas and all the ancestors looking down. I don't feel a weight of responsibility, they've have done their bit. THE FIREFIGHTER'S PROGRESS
A peep into the history of firefighting devices.

A "primitive Japanese hand squirt" is demonstrated at the museum of the London Fire Brigade. Firemen demonstrate a manual fire engine with lateral pumping levers.

The firemen then demonstrate the very latest in fire engines. The fire engine has been designed by Major Morris, Chief Officer of the London Fire Brigade. Various shots of the firemen demonstrating hoses, breathing apparatus, escape ladders, etc.

We then see another "welcome innovation" - the canteen van. Nice shots of water being boiled in urns and cups of tea being poured. The firemen stand beside the van and have a nice cup of tea wearing their shiny helmets.
