During the Thalidomide tragedy of 1962, public attention was focused on dangers to public health and safety through laxities in the enforcement of regulations covering new medicines by the Food and Drug Administration. Now long after the Thalidomide tragedy, serious questions are being raised by concerned legislators about the current effectiveness of the laws and the ability of the FDA to protect the public against another similar incident. AT ISSUE will bring to the screen those who see evidence of “rigged” reports by some doctors on clinical investigation of new drugs, see “loopholes” in existing legislation, and allege slowness in removing potentially dangerous drugs from the market.
