David Susskind Wakefield Poole, you worked out, or elaborate. Ratiocination Wakefield Poole No, I really firmly believe that David Susskind Youy're making dirty movies. Wakefield Poole To you, David, I'm making dirty movies but to myself David Susskind To the customer. Wakefield Poole No, I'm not making dirty movies, David Susskind who's coming to see boys in the sand? Wakefield Poole Quite a few people David Susskind homosexuals? Wakefield Poole Homosexual straight. Largely, yes, it's I made them for a gate audience. Because I'll tell you how I started to make them I saw one myself and I fell asleep. And the people were with me laughing. I thought this is this is dirty. You know, it's not. It's not real. And that's why I got interested, I've been in the theater for 20 years of my life, television. I've done big television shows. Ed Sullivan. Gary Moore as a performer I just feel that there is a time now. That's why I put my name on my film. It is my name. And I'm subject to arrest because I have my name on the film, they can come and get me right here and take me out the store. And I can spend up to seven years in jail. But it's it's something that I believe in, I think it is one of the most beautiful things in the world is sex. And it also expresses an idea if a person can can see something and see two people relating to one another, not only on a sexual level, and I'm not talking about just penetration, I'm talking about relating as to human beings. And that's what I'm into doing in films. I'm into showing those people relate. I'm showing the need, I'm showing all the things that make up the human being. It's what I'm trying to show in my movies, and I think I'm succeeding. I've been very successful. So I can only base that on my succeeding artistically. And what I want to do I want to make artistic films, I want to make erotic films, films that aren't dirty a film that you could go to see and say, That is a beautiful film, a film that challenges the mind as well as the crotch so to speak, you know? David Susskind Barney Barnard Sackett Hi David David Susskind you will have a theater in Philadelphia plays dirty movies is that fair to say. Barnard Sackett No, I show musical comedies drenched in sex. That's what it really is. People come to be amused. David, David Susskind do you have the same kind of rather elaborate rationale for what you do as Wakefield? Barnard Sackett I have no rationale. I have a theater that's played besides X rated films. We play Charlie Chaplin. I played a Jewish film. French Film David Susskind I know. Your fame Barnard Sackett We still have sex with subtitles. Right? David Susskind You really play sexy pictures. Barnard Sackett Now we're doing okay. David Susskind Do you have any self consciousness about doing that? Barnard Sackett No, because we have a very nice operation. David, the people come to our theater. Don't come with raincoats, hats, we have the concession. But they come without these things. And they can't enjoy themselves. Because you know, you can learn something from something's being done on the screen, even with inexperienced sexual performers. I have had David Susskind Are your movie showing sexual intercourse. Barnard Sackett Oh, yeah. Yeah, David Susskind hardcore pornography. Barnard Sackett Well it all depends what you mean by David Susskind The definition of Wakefield Poole. Hardcore Barnard Sackett Well, if the if judges if the Supreme Court has yet to pass down the decision, what is pornography? How can we as lay people know you're an attorney? David Susskind I'm not an attorney. Barnard Sackett You were at one time an attorney David David Susskind No, never. No, never. I don't want to be charged with that. I've never been an attorney Barnard Sackett I'm going to have to check that biography of yours. The uh... David Susskind if you show show hardcore pornography on the screen, that's pornography. Barnard Sackett But what is pornography? David Susskind Pornography is that which appeals to poor end interest? That's what the court said. Barnard Sackett that's what the court said that people come to my theater come to be entertained. They can't perform any sexual act in the theater. They might learn something they come to be amused. They come with a sense of humor. They come to kill an hour, an hour and a half or two hours. We don't stop you from walking out of the theater if they pay the $3. David Susskind Is there a similarity and type that comes to your theater? Aren't they men middle aged men Barnard Sackett No David, believe it or not. We get them we say 21 and over but if someone comes in with a draft card, we feel we can get killed for that for United States. And you can also come and be entertained by the people United States. So we let them in. We have young people, we have girls coming by themselves. We have women who come in by themselves. We even have Believe it or not. A major railroad has a luncheon every Monday and after the lunch they come in to be entertained for 30 40 minutes, believe it or not. They even sign a guest book David Susskind The board of directors? Barnard Sackett I never asked them David Susskind A major railroad. who's coming? The porters the conductor's Barnard Sackett well, they could be major members, you know, but no, these are executives Believe it or not, and we have a guestbook. You know, people came in and were afraid what they were seeing when they put their name on a guest book. Seriously with their name, address phone number? Not at all. David Susskind I've heard everything... a guest book in a porno movie. We'll be back tomorrow the stunning revelations in a minute.

David Susskind Now men who make their livings from pornography Bernard Sackett owns the odd Movie House in Philadelphia and it only plays X movies. He also produced the erotic film, erotic con. Martin Ross operates Marty's adult world bookstores and peep shows in the state of Connecticut. Bob Brown has a number of pornographic bookstores in New York and Long Island. He is also the publisher of several male magazines. Filmmaker Wakefield Poole has directed and produced a number of X films, including boys in the sand, and Bijou. The New York Times has called Martin Hodas, the king of the peep show business in New York. What meanit that, Martin Hodas. How many peep shows do you have? Martin Hodas Jeeze, I've lost count? Maybe a couple of 100 David Susskind peep shows? Martin Hodas Yes, peep shows David Susskind various stories showing dirty Martin Hodas Yes I have. No, not dirty. No sexually orientated material. No one's ever classified them as dirty. I've never heard that expression used David Susskind Martin Hodas when I look in the peep show, what do they see? Martin Hodas They see. You could say simulated sex. In other words, boys and girls together, they're nude and the like, mild form of showbusiness, you could say, David Susskind a mild form of show business Martin Hodas in the nude, and they go through acts of lovemaking, but you'll never see explicit sex. David Susskind And you have a couple of 100 of these establishments. Martin Hodas Yes. David Susskind Are you getting rich? Martin Hodas No, not really. It's, it's been pretty rough. Really has because in the last year or so I would say the people in my business are not subjected to the same laws that a murderer or a rapist or a mugger is we were a bit far below them. Now. We've reached the point where David Susskind Do you feel that Martin Hodas I don't feel it. It's so. It's so. It's actually happened. In other words, we do not get the same. Would you like an example? David Susskind You mean you have? In your own mind the rapist Martin Hodas I'd like to give you en example. It's not in my mind. no, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't just make a statement without backing it up. So I'll give you an example, about six months ago, New York City in order to go ahead and try and put the peep shows out of business because they felt that this was an easy target and easy mark, decided to license the machines after being in business for four years, five years running without a license, they decided to license the machines. So they went ahead and got a decree from a judge. So they gave us 30 days in which to get a license. Now, I went down and made applications for all my stores for licenses, they wouldn't even accept the applications. And I thought it was completely ridiculous. And after 30 days, we're up. The cops came in and they arrested everybody, all the clerks and everybody that was in the store at the time. They arrested everybody for not having licenses then getting summons or anything, arrested them. Now my attorney got ahold of the proper people in New York and said, Well, what is this? What kind of business the judge goes ahead says get licenses. They won't even accept the applications. How do you expect a man to get a license? And it was just about told in a roundabout way? We don't expect to give them any licenses. Now you can't tell me David Susskind You're being hounded The point is is Martin Hodas it more than hounded. This is a matter of just David Susskind And it's intollerable. I mean you'r a legitimate. You're a legitimate businessman. You should be left alone. Martin Hodas Absolutely. not left alone. If they if they if they if they want to license us, give us a license. That's all but don't say get a license and then deny us the license. David Susskind Wakefield Poole you make dirty movies. Wakefield Poole I make erotic films. Yes. David Susskind They the same thing erotic. Wakefield Poole It's hard to define David David Susskind your actors simulating sex or performing sex Wakefield Poole No I do hardcore films. David Susskind Hardcore films mean what? Wakefield Poole Meaning there is penetration. And it's the ultimate supposedly of porno films, hardcore pornography. It's not to the extent that Marty's is where it's simulated. It's for real. David Susskind Why Do you do that? Wakefield Poole I think there's a need for it. Definitely for it. David Susskind Who needs that? Wakefield Poole The people that are coming to see my movies must need David Susskind Are they sick people? Wakefield Poole No, I don't think they're sick people. I don't consider myself sick. I don't consider the people who work for me sick. David Susskind What healthy person needs because that's your word needs to go to see people making love to people on the screen. Wakefield Poole I think maybe I can explain it this way. From the time I was you know, so high. I was taught to love and in loving oneself vulnerable, and that's the epitome of love. And at no time Except when people are having sex are the most vulnerable. And I think to show that to people at their most vulnerable, and being able to look at it and see this, I think it's a beautiful thing. It's not dirty. It's not

And after this, she went on a shopping spree in a supermarket and was tempted by some frozen food dinner, quick TV dinner that she was going to have that evening. Now of David Susskind course, next photograph, I know the man very well. His name is Truman Capote he I think he would give the royalties from in cold blood to reclaim that picture. Well, isn't he gorgeous? He Dick Corkery showed me a bit of his Fanny in the mirror. If you take a look at the reflected mirror. What this is when he was getting in shape, he went off the drinking spree. He's drying out and he looks marvelous. This is good texture. He went into this sauna and Whirlpool and had a ball. Really look good. Oh, yeah, looks terrific. It starts just having a facelift now. David Susskind I know you've got the famous fight again. Right. Dick Corkery This is the Donnybrook outside of a club on the birthday of John Kennedy Jr. John Kennedy's on the floor on the floor. He wound up in the Donnybrook on the floor somebody no one. I think he was knocked down physically knocked down by the photographer Gene Spatz he was pushed and trolled tripped on the curb. Is he a nice young man? He seems to be make sense to me. Wouldn't you say?Yeah, I think about the fight. Oh, yeah. But aside from that, he just seems Oh yeah, you can Yeah. David Susskind Okay, and your next picture. Dick Corkery Philippe Juno and princess Karolina Monique. Right. This is when she came into town with her parents went to regimes the parents went home early that evening, and she met her boyfriend at that time. They weren't pleased with him, but I expect they're a little more pleased with David Susskind the idea now, you know, my son the Playboy Dick Corkery This is Al Pacino out on his own or famous movie star. David Susskind He got to play into that camera. Hold it down, put Chino blossoms and everything does me Dick Corkery Oh, he was dancing up a storm with a bandana on his head. This is a candid picture this was made with actually not his knowledge that it was going to be published. I was in there with a small camera and I was with a copy girl from the newspaper posing as my wife and it was just something no press permit. David Susskind This is what Pacino looks like when he's out having a good time. Dick Corkery Oh, yeah, he got a hello here. David Susskind Pacino and some famous friends. Right. Dick Corkery Pacino David Susskind play it into that camera. This is Pacino and Robert De Niro. Yes, that's De Niro. Dick Corkery Lee Strasberg, David Susskind their teacher, the famous acting TGS. David Susskind Now, if you've wondered how the rich and famous relax, this may be one of the superb photographs play into that camera. Will you identify the where are these people Dick Corkery at Studio 54? Again, yes, that seems to be the place where celebrities will end up. It's a party for Bianca Jagger. David Susskind All right now, chap in the white suit. That seems to be thinking about the cosmos. Dick Corkery Halston. David Susskind That's Halston, who is the woman patting his cheek? Dick Corkery That's Bianca David Susskind Bianca Jagger. Aha, who is that fascinated characters staring at Mick Jagger, Dick Corkery that's Baryshnikov, Mikhail Baryshnikov, the famous ballet dancer. He was at the party with Mick and Bianca and Halston. In fact, that evening, they brought in a white horse and Bianca wrote it throughout the discotheque, bareback. David Susskind God things amazing those famous they look like they're having fun. Really fun. Yeah. What else? Is it fun? I don't know. We're looking at them. I don't know. Here's Tony Savalas Dick Corkery here's the mochi. Here's David Susskind your you know, your Dick Corkery jeans discotheque restaurant in New York. You have two women, two women here right? With Yes. Dick Corkery Two ladies and son. David Susskind Good Combination. What have you got there? Dick Corkery There's Woody Allen, who sometimes we think is camera shy. He shows he's shy here. But he seems to show up at every event and he was hiding. So I guess he got too thin or something. All right. David Susskind And here's our wonderful shot. Perry Como with all Dick Corkery his trousers in Taiwan. David Susskind He's trying on a suit. Dick Corkery That's right. He's being fit for a suit and David Susskind you're behind the clothes rack. David Susskind Alright, here's the shot that Mrs. Kennedy Onassis should really buy up. Dick Corkery Here she goes in a fox hunt out in New Jersey David Susskind Let's get a look at her face. INTERVIEW CONCLUDES: David Susskind Do the police know you? 'Joey' Oh yeah. David Susskind Do they know you're a killer? 'Joey' Oh yeah. Of couse. No, you don't underestimate the police. I mean, they got their people they got their performance they know what you're doing. Your bookmaker they know it. you're a hit man they know it. They know who you are. David Susskind Do you pay off the police 'Joey' when I'm book Making sure on when I got a numbers thing going kinda I can operate as I paid them off. David Susskind How does the payoff work? 'Joey' Well it depends on what kind of an operation you got a few bookmaker and you got phones you pay so much per phone. If you got a David Susskind who do you pay? a cop on the beat? 'Joey' no no, no, no no you pay you pay somebody that's in Division. Or you paid somebody to borrough. generally or it's got something most guys go right into the commissioner's office. And then you pay so much per phone. if you have men on the street on a numbers thing you pay so much per man David Susskind How many phones have you had working? 'Joey' Well, biggest office I was ever in we had six phones David Susskind and what were you paying per phone? 'Joey' $2,000 A month per phone David Susskind 2000 A month per phone 'Joey' right David Susskind 12,000 a month? 'Joey' That's correct. David Susskind In cash, 'Joey' C A S H David Susskind delivered to the 'Joey' No guy comes around you know that's why that's that's where that word bag man comes from? Because he's because he carries his little black bag and whatever they owe he sticks in his pocket David Susskind if a raid is coming will they call the head 'Joey' Oh yeah. We'll call them have they pick up one of our men? They let us know. David Susskind Right so the police know all about you 'Joey' Oh sure. David Susskind And they would know all about the 38 murders. 'Joey' I'm pretty sure of the ones that I've done. They just can't prove David Susskind Have you been called in on all the ones you have done 'Joey' I've been called in on 17 besides the one besides the three I was acquitted. David Susskind Did they seem anxious to solve them 'Joey' not really that anxious they will do they harrass you, hassle you for maybe about an hour or two they look you guys got something on me, booked me if not David Susskind Is there a payoff to get out 'Joey' No way, you just pick up and walk away so you guys don't miss it. I call my lawyer David Susskind Joey Why are you doing this television show? 'Joey' Oh, I wrote a book. And I like I want to publicize the book. David Susskind Isn't your life in jeopardy? 'Joey' Suer it is. Thye know who I am, I'm dead. But unlike a lot of guys, I'm not a stool pigeon. I didn't get up before any committees made a name any names and put anybody in the joint? David Susskind And why would you run the risk of getting killed to publicize a book 'Joey' Because I think it's time that the public found out that they and they can't outlaw what people want. I don't care how you try it. You can do everything I have done has stemmed from the fact that it was outlawed to begin with by people. That's why do you think there are so many people in this business because of the money that's there. And this could all be legitimized David Susskind gambling, you're talking about 'Joey' gambling, prostitution, even narcotics, you if you take the hard thing narcotics, which repulses everybody who makes an addict, he makes himself. So now you got an addict. Right? Now, the guy is illegal, because he's illegal. If he sells it is illegal. If a user is illegally possessed, the take the service guy has got to go out and steal in order to get the money to go have it. Now if you legalize narcotics, he goes to a hospital gets a shot. This guy goes to work. You don't have to steal. That's number one. David Susskind You've run narcotics in 'Joey' I've brought them in from Mexico. Yeah. David Susskind How'd you do that? 'Joey' I used to tape them to the rim of a wheel inside the wheel and put the tire back over to bring an eight kilos at a time. David Susskind Did they ever take the wheels off the car? 'Joey' I had the car searched. They pulled the wheel off the car, but they never took the tire off the wheel. Okay, it was the closest I ever come. Then after that I had carte blanche to drive back and forth. Look, I own the place. David Susskind Made a lot of money doing that. 'Joey' I made a hell of a lot of money doing it. David Susskind Why did you quit? 'Joey' Why did I quit? Because it ran out of work before it died David Susskind Why didn't you go into the narcotic business with somebody else? 'Joey' I wasn't that interested David Susskind you were making big money? 'Joey' Yeah, I was doing alright. I don't complain. See, I'm funny. Like, I work I like a guy was working for man. He's dead now. Dragna he was good to me. I worked for him. He was good to me. And he had things going. Everything's fine. When he died. It was a big scramble for who won and who does that and everything. And nobody know which way was up. You know, they're all playing playing a game, you know, about what their end was going to be in what your room was going to be. And the way they work it is it should have won yet. Whatever stuck to the ceiling was yours. And I need these guys. David Susskind When Dragna died, what did you do? 'Joey' I moved around a while I had some money and I wasn't really interested. Then I did a few odds and ends. And then I had a couple of contracts that I took care of. David Susskind Hijacking 'Joey' No wasn't I Hijacking and I had no I had a couple of hit contracts that he did. And the insurance David Susskind contract is 20,000 A year 20,000 A shot 20,000 A shot and you've done 35 shots correct professional? 'Joey' Well, roughly. I mean, it wasn't always 20 You know, 20,000 went up you know as time went by David Susskind go up depending on how important the man 'Joey' no it went up and depending on what the price was, you know, like, it started out like for a while for a long time. The price was 10 grand. And the price or one day I turned around the price is double. David Susskind You do hits today. 'Joey' If the Price is right? Yeah. David Susskind And what else skyjacking 'Joey' No no sky Jack. Jack, it's not my life out. hiJack. hijacking. yeah, I've hijack some trucks. had merchandise I could dispose of very quickly David Susskind and you're into pornographic pornography here. You're selling movies. 'Joey' Yeah. Yeah, there's a market for number one thing, my friend. And I want without you. There's no me.And by you, I don't mean you, per se. I mean you the public. Because the public didn't want it. We couldn't sell it.The public didn't want to make a bet we couldn't book the public than one character. We couldn't sell it. The public didn't want to borrow money, we couldn't lend it. David Susskind And also you couldn't do any of this without the act of cooperation. The police, 'Joey' correct and politicians. What I am saying is this, a lot of the things that we are into, can be legalized. And the money derived from this could all but eliminate all your sales taxes. And not only that, but you could build your schools and your hospitals and your roads and you don't have enough money left over to take care of all the people that are on welfare. You have any idea of the kind of money I'm talking about? The only idea was bet in this city. alone every year. David Susskind How much 'Joey' $20 billion a year is bet in this city. Now you got to figure we keep at least 15% of that. David Susskind How do you know these figures? H 'Joey' Hey I've had offices I've been in offices. I used to I show you guys they think not about betting 5, 10 $1,000 at a ballgame. 1000 across on a horse and they get the money right I can show I can break it down from your $2 bet at a $10,000 better. This city is full of them and every city is full of them. Remember one thing about a gamble. He will go anywhere to have his game. You can you can write laws against it. They've done it. What does it proved? David Susskind You gamble? 'Joey' Sure I do. I'm a big gamble anybody? I blow most of my money again but I enjoy gambling. David Susskind Do you take drugs? 'Joey' Nope. Never take them drug in my life. David Susskind You have any other bad habit besides gambling and killing 'Joey' broads David Susskind Broads? You say in your book that women find you irresistible 'Joey' no I didn't say they find David Susskind They find you sexually very attractive 'Joey' they find they find the fact that what I do attractive David Susskind you tell them what you do 'Joey' no like I like I'll give you an example. At a party one time if they had been acquitted. I was introduced to this girl who will certainly come from one of your better families. Right? She couldn't wait to jump into bed with me David Susskind because you were a killer 'Joey' That's correct. David Susskind That's somehow allured her 'Joey' yeah to her David Susskind it was she just stunning exception. or a lot of women, 'Joey' no when broads find that you deal in violence and control violence, as I call it. The fact that they know that you've taken a life or you they know that you do this or you have no compunction about this. It has a strange fascination. Don't ask me what it is. I don't know.
