( MOVIE MAGAZINE 1 )
John Fitzgerald sits behind a desk wearing a black jacket and bow tie. He states: "This is the last edition of Movie Magazine that you'll see in this spot." He tells the viewers that Movie Magazine is to merge with "Film Fanfare". The new show will be going out on Saturday evenings at 10pm. He launches into a long monologue about which "spot" the show will be given eventually. "Film Fanfare" will be simultaneously broadcast to London, the Midlands and the North.

Next week's Odeon release is reviewed. It is "The Harder They Fall" starring Humphrey Bogart and Rod Steiger. John relates the plot. The announcer looks off screen right to indicate that a clip of the film will be inserted - no clip in our copy. He continues with his review.

Emile Zola's "Nana" is reviewed. The film stars Charles Boyer and Martine Carol. John has a cheeky smile on his face as he states "Martine is very lovely to look at." Again he looks in anticipation of a clip - clip is missing. John states that the film is beautifully shot in colour and that the subtitles are easy to read. He says goodnight.

The opening section of "Movie Magazine" follows (sequences are out of order - seems to be an alternative version). John explains to new viewers in the North ("who have only just joined the band three fellowship") that this is the spot where films about to start their general release are reviewed. John explains his aims in the programme - to tell viewers a little about the films and show excerpts. Not to tell viewers what they should or shouldn't go to see.

John reviews "The Harder They Fall" a second time. It is a different review to the first version.

"One Man Mutiny" is reviewed. John explains why there will be black masking at the top and bottom of the television screen when showing a Cinemascope clip. Interesting explanation of the decisions made and a prediction for an "elastic television tube" which will solve the problem in future.

Gary Cooper and Rod Steiger star in "One Man Mutiny" - there is no clip.

"The Vagabond King" is reviewed. Oreste plays the King of the Vagabonds and Kathryn Grayson is his co-star. Walter Hampden is said to be "magnificent". Rita Moreno plays the "exciting tavern wench". No clip.

John finishes by saying that's all they have time for this week, so he'll hand us back to Paul Carpenter and say goodnight.

(End of item.)
