WHEN EMPLOYEES CLOSED THE VAULT DOOR, NOT KNOWING THE MAN WAS STILL INSIDE. </p>\n<p>FIRE OFFICIALS SAID ONCE THE VAULT IS CLOSED, IT CANNOT BE REOPENED UNTIL MORNING. </p>\n<p>FIRST RESPONDERS DID TRY TO CUT THROUGH THE VAULT'S CONCRETE WALL ... BUT THEY HIT METAL PLATING. </p>\n<p>THEY TOLD THE MAN HE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE VAULT AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCKED. </p>\n<p>THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT, CREWS USED A PHONE AND CAMERAS INSIDE THE VAULT TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM AND MAKE SURE HE WAS OKAY.</p>\n<p>AT SIX-15 A-M ...THE VAULT OPENED ON A TIMER... House of the Black Hall (V, 11 and 13), Room and Lararium 1
TILT up, PAN, TILT down, interior. The House of the Black Hall (Casa del Salone Nero) is one of the most luxurious mansions in Herculaneum. The room (oecus) seen here has a vaulted ceiling and 4th-style wall paintings, consisting of white panels framed in red and architectural motifs. The floor is paved with a white mosaic with a black double border. The door leads to a small open area with a lararium (shrine to the household gods).

NORTHWESTERN BANK VAULT OPENED (1982)
THE SAFE DEPOSIT AREA LOCATED IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE NORTHWESTERN BANK BUILDING WAS REOPENED FOR NORMAL BUSINESS AFTER A FIRE DESTROYED MUCH OF THE BANK BUILDING. THE VAULT, IN WHICH THE SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES WERE KEPT WAS UNTOUCHED BY THE FIRE.
