Interview Re: Mood Of American Voters
43234 DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN FILM
This reel includes two films from the 1952 Eisenhower campaign. It starts with "an official presidential campaign commercial for Dwight D. Eisenhower in the State of Washington in 1952. Narrated by Floyd Olds, slate-chairman of the Eisenhower forces, the film is a call to action to Republican voters to "help in this great movement".

At 2:41, the "Hollywood Volunteers for Eisenhower" present "One American", a tribute to Eisenhower as a strong, spiritual, and humble leader. Made prior to his nomination, the film is a call to primary voters to register and vote for him. The film starts with Eisenhower participating in V-E and V-J Victory celebrations in Europe, including London and Paris. Eisenhower is shown riding down the Champs Elysee and at a ticker tape parade in New York at 4:28 down Broadway. Ike is seen at Giants Stadium at 6:00, watching the Giants play a baseball game as guest of honor. At 6:30, Eisenhower visits Washington, D.C. with Mamie. Finally at 8:12, Ike arrives home in Abilene, Kansas where he sees his mother. Here Ike is seen in his element, watching a parade and saluting the flag.

At 10:00, men on the street present their thoughts about Eisenhower, and men and women talk about the need to register and vote.

At 13:29, Eisenhower speaks to the camera about his own qualities.

"Eisenhower is as American as pumpkin pie," says the narrator, "a man who has shown himself to be one of the most remarkable diplomats in the nation's history...a man who can keep the peace...one American..."

The film followed on the heels of the Draft Eisenhower movement, the first successful political draft of the 20th century to take a private citizen to the Oval Office. It was a widespread American grassroots political movement that eventually persuaded Dwight D. Eisenhower to run for President. The movement culminated in the 1952 presidential election in which Eisenhower won the Republican nomination and defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson to become the 34th President of the United States

Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
