Cane toad resting on ground
Cane toad (Rhinella marina) resting on the ground. This is an amphibian native to South and Central America. They were introduced to various countries to help control agricultural pests. However, due to their prolific breeding and high adaptability, they have become one of the worst invasive species in many regions. Cane toads also secrete a milky poison from the parotoid glands located behind their shoulders which is highly toxic to most animals if ingested. They can breed at any time of year, laying between 8,000 and 30,000 eggs at once in fresh water. Filmed in a suburban garden in Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia.
