Battle of Britain control room, World War II. Plotters and other Royal Air Force personnel working in a control room at the British air defence headquarters during the Battle of Britain (1940) in World War II (1939-1945). The large table shows a map of southern Britain, with a list of RAF squadrons on the wall. The plotters would add information from radar and other sources as it arrived, and officers would assess the overall picture from their seats in the upper galleries. The close-up midway through the clip shows a different map, of the English Channel and London, the primary target for bombers from Nazi Germany during the Blitz. The camera scans north along the coast, showing the airbases and defence installations up to northern Scotland. A silence sign is seen towards the end of the clip.
