Script Story Information: Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Honecker announces no charges are being filed in the hot tub drowning of 16-year-old Tanya Nickens. Nickens drowned in just three feet of water Saturday. She died in a hot tub at a prom night party that was supposed to be safe. At the Nickens' family home in Lakewood, friends and relatives are still trying to come to grips with the death of Tanya, trying to understand how this healthy, active teenager could have drowned in just 3 feet of water. Tonya Nickens died at a prom night party at the Atlantic Club in Wall Township. Police say she was in a hot tub when the suction somehow dragged her under. By the time an employee was able to turn the tub off, it was too late. In a tragic and ironic twist, the party Tanya was attending was sponsored by the school district. It was alcohol free and supposed to be a safer alternative to drinking. Police call it a tragic, freak accident. They say the club was not at fault. Managers here at the Atlantic Club declined to be interviewed on camera. But off camera the general manager says the club is committed to safety. In the seven years the club has taken part in the safe prom program, more than 20-thousand high schoolers have spent their prom nights here. And he says there has never an incident until now. Some of Tanya's friend have criticized the club but on this day, her family and friends would not. In fact, they won't talks about the incident at all, saying they just need time to grieve for a girl who died much too soon.
