They were able to salvage a thumb and sew it on sideways. Most of you don't know this but I contracted a disease from Travis in my eyes and the doctors had to remove them and that's why I'm blind today. 14:29:19 WX - NASH/ ESSENTIALLY 4 HANDS BEATING ON YOU TRT: 49 OC: AND SUPPORT IT 14:29:22 Travis was purchased in Missouri and brought back to CT. Had this law been in effect, this would have never been as it is. I want you all to realize too - these chimpanzees.. .thier strength, not only their strength but they have two hands and their two feet are hands also so imagine four hands holding and beating on you. It's not a good sight so I'm here today, I support this bill and I hope people go by it and support it. 14:30:11 (0:00) /

Chimp Attack Victim to Meet with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Charla Nash, The Humane Society of the United States and Born Free USA will urge members of Congress to pass the Captive Primate Safety Act WHAT: Charla Nash, The Humane Society of the United States and Born Free USA will meet with members of Congress to advocate for the passage of the Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 2856/S. 1463). If passed, the Captive Primate Safety Act will ban the interstate commerce of monkeys, apes and other primates for the exotic pet trade. WHO: Charla Nash Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO, The Humane Society of the United States Kate Dylewsky, Program Associate, Born Free USA Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick, R-PA Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-OR Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-CT BACKGROUND: On Feb. 16, 2009, Charla Nash was viciously attacked by her boss’ 200 pound chimpanzee in Stamford, Connecticut. Travis, the chimp, ripped off Charla’s lips, nose, eyelids, hands and most of the boney structure in her mid-face. Eventually, doctors were forced to remove Charla’s eyes because of an infection passed on through the chimpanzee. In May 2011, Charla became one of the first people in the world to undergo a face transplant. Nash wholeheartedly supports the Captive Primate Safety Act because it will prevent future tragedies by shutting down the interstate trade of the dangerous animals. Nearly half of the states prohibit private possession of some or all primate species as pets, but primates are easily obtained by anyone via the Internet, through out-of-state dealers and at auctions, making a federal law necessary to support state law enforcement efforts.##
