The beard was grown for the sci-fi flick The Fountain, which Brad walked out of last week - a week before filming in Australia was due to begin - citing problems with the script. Now Warner Brother executives, furious at Brad's last-minute departure are demanding that Brad pays them back $19.5 million (£12m) as an exit fee. 'Brad really hated that beard,' one movie source reveals. 'But it's sure going to cost him to shave it off.' Brad also made himself unpopular with the Aussies by labeling the Gold Coast, where filming was due to take place, 'a schlocky tourist town'. According to reports in trade journal 'Variety', Pitt is walking away from the Darren Aronofsky's 'The Fountain' and looks likely to walk into an update of the classical Iliad called 'Troy'. Both films are produced by Warner bros. . Pitt is said to unhappy about the script of 'The Fountain', which centres on the psychological journey of one main character (Pitt) set in the past, present and future. Studio executives have apparently placed calls to Casting agents asking about the availibility of several other top stars as replacements for Pitt in 'The Fountain' .

The financial backers of the the 'swords and sandals' epic will be relieved to discover that it took $45 million, a good if not amazing start - The last 'Lord of the Rings' took over $73 million. Now they will wait anxiously for the second weekend results to see if it's a genuine hit - in other words to see if the movie's legs are as notable as Brad Pitt's in a skirt. Meanwhile, a flu-stricken Pitt soldiered on in Tokyo at the final stop of the world promotion tour of 'Troy', before heading back to Los Angeles. "It's really surprised, I've never seen him being sick" said Director Wolfgang Petersen, at the packed news conference, which Brad Pitt was not able to attend the start. Pitt finally showed up at the very last part of the press conference, joining a photo opportunity with other casts and staff. "Thank you very much for waiting for me." Later in the evening, the venue was moved to Budokan, a major arena in Tokyo, where over 1,000 fans gathered catch a glimpse of Hollywood's hottest star and his fellow cast members including Eric Bana and Diane Kruger .
