Hosted by Bob Hope with a truly corny narration script, this recruiting film for the Army National Guard was originally released as one of the episodes of "The Big Picture", the U.S. Army's TV show. It shows the readiness of the Guard. At the 1:50 mark, a target drone, a Radio Controlled Target Aircraft or RCAT, is shown being piloted through a gauntlet of fire. At 2:25, the M-40 duster anti-aircraft gun is shown. <p><p>The Duster has the capability of pumping out a 120 rounds from each tube per barrel -- that’s 240 rounds per minute. At 3:00, they hit the target and at mark 3:10, the exercise was concluded. Coordination is a key factor in any exercise. Battle planning strategy is just as important to the bad guys as it is to the heroes. They are jumping into real attacks and real combat attacks as seen at mark 4:12. If heavier reinforcement is needed, they have them too. <p><p>At mark 5:10 a powerful rocket which is been operated by some Special Forces and they are best found in the army guard. At mark 5:50, we see the army guards going onboard for attacks. Because of the close ties in the Army and Air National Guard they are working together continuously. As seen mark 6:30 are Rhode Island Army National Guardsmen are shown working with an Hu-16 Grumman Albatross amphibian aircraft. <p><p>At mark 8:50, Montana National Guardsmen are seen training on a snowy landscape. This is a important training with a purpose; they are on a mission to ambush a mythical enemy on post. Once they reach the area a bright planning is needed to obtain the area. Silence becomes the order of the day as the guards are closing on their objective as seen at mark 9:07. Here usual weapons are not employed, so a swift arrow is used to hit the target. At mark 9:42, Hawaiian Guardsmen are seen in another training exercise. Check up plans are made, the guards are also trained on camouflage as seen at mark 10:27. <p><p>At mark 10:50 is a grenade launcher; also a 6mm recoilless rifle is seen. The radar station at top Mount Kohala as seen at mark 11:25. At mark 12:20, jet tankers refuel Air Guard F-86 jet fighters. A strike exercise is seen at the 16 minute mark.<p><p>All guards swear allegiance to the state at mark 17:40. At mark 18:07, the guards are used against riots and troubled streets. At mark 18:o0, a simulated riot is seen. At mark 18:10, an actual riot is seen, with Civil Rights protestors in Cicero, Illinois, and at 18:36 the Watts Riots. A fireman is seen being shot during the riots. At 19:12, the Detroit Riots are seen and aftermath.<p><p>Few tragedies strike with more hearing of the tornado or flood as seen at mark 20:00. This one level half of the area, 50 lives were lost. <p><p>At mark 21:50 is a specialist Betty Aiken who flies aboard a C-97, that is bringing back wounded from Vietnam. who helps in treating the wounded, she checks their oxygen equipment. She’s made more than 23 trips to Vietnam. <p><p>Hope ends with these words: "Much has been said and written concerning the tradition heritage of the national guard and how they’ve been extraordinary; an example is George Washington as seen at mark 22:40. Also Abraham Lincoln at mark 22:46, Harry S, Truman (who is shown in color at the 23:00 mark) and others including General Wheeler the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Curtiss LeMay, and Brig. Gen. Charles W. Sweet who flew the B-29 Bock's Car over Nagasaki. Capt. Larry B. Mason is shown at 24:00, a Vietnam War hero. At mark 26:22 we see Rusty Schweickart and Deke Slayton, both astronauts, as well as Charles Conrad. The Guard has been that way for more than 330 years now and they have been overcoming obstacles and more accomplishments and achievements.
