SOUNDBITE: (English) Alexandra Klingelhofer, Vice President of Collections, RMS Titanic: "We want to bring out for people to understand the wonder of exploration, going down two-and-a-half miles to the ocean, recovering a bag, bringing it back up and opening it and finding jewellery. Fabulous jewels. Diamonds, sapphires, sparkling in the light after almost 100 years of being in the darkness. And that's an excitement that was only shared by the people on the ship. And so, in bringing these jewels together, for the public as a mini exhibit, we're able to give them a glimpse as to how it must have been to have opened that for the first time and to see, together, the beautiful jewellery of the Edwardian period." 8. Pull out of silver, diamond encrusted pendant 9. Zoom in to diamond rings 10. Zoom in to gold bow pin with small diamonds 11. Close-up of gold necklace 12. Zoom in to white gloved hands holding up gold necklace STORYLINE: Most of the jewellery recovered from the wreckage of the Titanic will go on public display for the first time with a three-city tour. The jewellery is from a single purser's bag found during a 1987 research and recovery mission. The collection includes diamond and sapphire rings, brooches, necklaces, cuff links and a gold pocket watch. In a nondescript industrial office in north Atlanta, officials from Premier Exhibitions Inc. and RMS Titanic Inc. previewed the artifacts before the exhibit opening. Exhibition company Premier is the parent company of RMS Titanic, which owns the rights to salvage from the luxury liner's wreck at the bottom of the North Atlantic. Alexandra Klingelhofer, Vice President of Collections, RMS Titanic, says the purpose of the exhibit is to show the public the wonder of exploration. "Going down two-and-a-half miles to the ocean, recovering a bag, bringing it back up and opening it and finding jewellery. Fabulous jewels. Diamonds, sapphires, sparkling in the light after almost 100 years of being in the darkness. ." Although single pieces of the jewelry have been on display at one or more permanent and travelling exhibits sponsored by Premier Exhibitions Inc., their Atlanta debut is the first time the majority of the collection has been available to the public. "In bringing these jewels together, for the public as a mini exhibit, we're able to give them a glimpse as to how it must have been to have opened that for the first time and to see, together, the beautiful jewellery of the Edwardian period," says Klingelhofer. The exhibit opens Friday at Premier's display gallery at the Atlantic Station gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. After a two-month exhibit in Atlanta, the jewels will travel to Orlando, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada. 78304 SCREAMING JETS CANADAIR AVRO JETLINER SABRE JET CF-100 CANUCK
Part of the Canada Carries on series of films, SCREAMING JETS shows various aircraft on display at air shows including the B-47 Stratojet, the Russian Mig-15, and more. Canada's progress in jet aviation is seen in relation to that of other countries. Aerial exhibitions show the performance of jet aircraft produced by countries foremost in the field, particularly Britain's Comet and her Sapphire-powered jet fighter, American stratojet bombers and Russia's fast-climbing MiG-15. At Canadair we see production of the Royal Canadian Air Force Sabre jets; at the Avro plant the Jetliner transport and the sleek, black night fighter CF-100. The film concludes with glimpses of aircraft of the future including personal helicopters, the jet parasite fighter, and more.

The Avro C102 Jetliner was a Canadian prototype medium-range turbojet-powered jet airliner built by Avro Canada in 1949. It was beaten to the air by only 13 days by the de Havilland Comet, thereby becoming the second jet airliner in the world. The name "Jetliner" was chosen as a shortening of the term "jet airliner", a term which is still in popular usage in Canada and the United States. The aircraft was considered suitable for busy routes along the US eastern seaboard and garnered intense interest, notably from Howard Hughes who even offered to start production under license. However continued delays in Avro's all-weather interceptor project, the Avro CF-100, led to an order to stop working on the project in 1951, with the prototype Jetliner later cut up for scrap.

The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck (affectionately known as the "Clunk") was a Canadian jet interceptor/fighter serving during the Cold War both in NATO bases in Europe and as part of NORAD. The CF-100 was the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production, serving primarily with the RCAF/CAF and in small numbers in Belgium. For its day, the CF-100 featured a short takeoff run and high climb rate, making it well suited to its role as an interceptor.

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! And it's anecdotal about instances where she was in different parts of the world, how she was given this jewellery, how she acquired pieces, and it also discusses pieces in detail talking about why the La Peregrina pearl is so special, why the Krupp diamond, why the Taj-Mahal is such a rare piece. But you always get as I say the unexpected and that is the fun part of doing something like this." 24. WS poster of book cover TAYLOR'S LEGENDARY GEMS GO NO DISPLAY Elizabeth Taylor has teamed up with Christie's to host the first-ever public exhibition of jewellery from her own private collection. Miss Taylor has personally selected over 30 pieces from her own collection for the exhibit. To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, In Style magazine will be hosting an auction on Thursday (Sept 26th). The auction will benefit The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. In addition to the exhibit and the auction, Christie's Chairman Francois Curiel will be on hand with Miss Taylor to launch the book: 'Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewellery.' Curiel has written the introduction to the book. The showcase item of Thursday's upcoming auction is said to be the emerald and diamond cluster ring of 7.40 carats surrounded by twelve pear-shaped diamonds of 5.30 carats. The ring was a love token to Miss Taylor from the late actor Richard Burton. In addition to the famed ring, eight of the world's most renowned jewellery houses each have created an exquisite piece to be sold in the auction. Francois Curiel will be joined by Miss Taylor on Thursday for the sale of the nine items. Miss Taylor founded ETAF in 1991 and has raised over $8 million for support services for people with HIV/AIDS and for AIDS prevention education. DALI JEWELS
C/Us of a piece of jewellery designed by Salvador Dali called 'The Living Flower' (this could be a brooch or just 'a piece' to admire!). The stem is made of gold; the golden petals have diamonds embedded on the inside and are shaped like outstretched hands - amazing! The golden petals open by a small mechanism to reveal stamen covered with diamonds inside the flower. The whole thing is very striking, seen against a black background.

M/S and C/Us of what the commentator calls 'The Angel Cross' - I think it is actually called 'Lapis Lazuli Cross'. Mounted on green velvet in an alcove, it is a three-dimensional grid cross; inside it is a golden tree, also in the shape of a cross, growing out of a round blue ball. There is a figure mounted on the tree cross and a large gemstone (amber?) in a silver setting is attached to the grid cross, next to the torso of the figure. The blue ball at the base rests on a kind of coarse stone, with what looks like coral and shards of lapis lazuli spreading over the top. There are numerous diamond studded spikes in the coarse stone, that wave gently to and fro by some kind of unseen mechanism.

Commentator says "The jewels, from the collection of the Owen Cheatham Foundation of America, are being exhibited in London in aid of charity". M/S of two women at Sotheby's looking at framed items in an exhibition area. One of the women picks up a necklace and puts it on the other's neck; C/U of 'The Tree of Life Necklace', which has golden leaves studded with diamonds along a twisting trunk necklace; at the centre is a face of gold and star sapphires hanging from the 'branch' by a gold chain.

C/U of 'The Eye of Time' - my favourite! This is a watch-brooch; the face of the watch is round, in three shades of blue enamel to look like the pupil and iris of an eye; the shape of the eyelid is an outline of diamonds, with a single diamond tear about to drop from the inside corner - fantabulosa!

C/U of 'The Gold Cube Cross'; six cubes of gold form a cross with a sunburst of diamonds behind it. C/U of two 'Leaf Veined Hands'; one is possibly a brooch, the other is mounted on a small case. These are golden hands in the shape of leaves, with each finger the tips of the leaf and with a ruby for each fingernail - slightly sinister-looking.

C/U of 'The Pomegranate Heart' (probably a brooch); ruby 'pips' embedded in diamond 'flesh' burst forth from a golden, heart-shaped 'skin'! Brilliant! Commentator tells of how "Dali, the painter, applied himself to jewellery because he felt that in modern times importance has been put on the stones themselves rather than on the art form". C/U of 'Ruby Lips' (another brooch); rubies set individually in gold form the shape of a pair of parted lips, between them are two rows of teeth-like pearls!

M/S and C/U of 'The Royal Heart' - this one is completely bizarre! A large gold heart topped with a bejewelled crown. Set in a square hollow of the heart is a pulsating three-dimensional heart of rubies. Commentator says "Pulsating rubies representing our Queen, heart beating constantly for her people, while the nugget gold symbolises the people sheltering and protecting their ruler".

What an incredible film!

Note: On file are four newspaper articles about Salvador Dali ('Pretend I'm mad? But I am mad, says Dali'), and a fascinating booklet, 'Dali, art-in-jewels' that accompanied the exhibition, with descriptions of all displays. Unfortunately, Pathe chose not to show the 'Telephone Ear Clips' or 'The Corset Ring'!

Cuts exist - see separate record.

The subject of engagement is completely fascinating to me and I started to think about how to create a work that was interactive, because all my work in interactive, and so I thought about the photo itself of the engagement announcement and in that photo William is perfectly standing alone on his own and Kate has come in and put her hand through his and really made an effort to show the ring. I thought about how staged that was and how much he felt like the statue itself. Then slowly I developed the idea that he could stand alone and that through the ring all of us could inhabit the position that Kate inhabited, kind of having our Prince Charming propose to us in that moment." Obviously there will probably be thousands of people putting their fingers through this ring, so it is made out of materials more durable than the original. One part that I particularly love is the sapphire is true sapphire except it is not mined, it is made in a laboratory, it's called synthetic sapphire and I love the idea of the relationship between the real and the man made, the real and the fake...Was it real when William and Kate were posing for photographs in front of a bay of photographers? Was that any more real than a wax statue of Prince William with who ever comes up on the pedestal? I love exploring that whole issue." 10. Tilt up Prince William statue 11. It isn't really...I mean somebody entering this piece is able to inhabit for a moment a certain kind of emotion that is a tremendously feminine emotion that, yes, I am sure Kate inhabited or continues to inhabit, but, it is a kind of portrait of that emotion. People say that Kate is not inside this artwork, but in fact her feelings are the subject matter of this artwork." FILE: London -16 November 2010 18. Close up Kate Middleton and Prince William 19. Wide of woman walking towards statue and posing with the statue STORYLINE Women in London are being offered the chance to be a princess for a few moments by participating in what is being described as a piece of interactive art. American artist Jennifer Rubell is asking people to step into royal bride-to-be Kate Middleton's shoes. She has created a life size waxwork of Prince William, complete with engagement ring - only this time, it's not Kate wearing it. Rubell's artwork allows people to interact with the wax model by putting their finger through the replica sapphire and diamond ring attached to 'William"s forearm. "We are all Kate Middleton, we are all somebody who would be very excited to be proposed to by somebody who loves us, whether they are a prince or anyone else," Rubell said. "Somebody entering this piece is able to inhabit for a moment a certain kind of emotion that is a tremendously feminine emotion that, yes, I am sure Kate inhabited or continues to inhabit, but, it is a kind of portrait of that emotion." The replica ring was made in London by jeweller Karlin Anderson. "Obviously there will probably be thousands of people putting their fingers through this ring, so it is made out of materials more durable than the original," said Rubell. "One part that I particularly love is the sapphire is true sapphire, except it is not mined, it is made in a laboratory. It's called synthetic sapphire and I love the idea of the relationship between the real and the man made, the real and the fake ... was it real when William and Kate were posing for photographs in front of the bay of photographers?" Rubell is a former food writer from New York and usually features edible objects in her work. One piece saw her suspending a ton of honey-coated ribs from a ceiling. So why the royals this time? She said the idea came to her during a flight from New York to Miami. "I started to think about how to create a work that was interactive, because all my work in interactive, and so I thought about the photo itself of the engagement announcement and in that photo William is perfectly standing alone on his own and Kate has come in and put her hand through his and really made an effort to show the ring," she said. "I thought about how staged that was and how much he felt like the statue itself. Then slowly I developed the idea that he could stand alone and that through the ring all of us could inhabit the position that Kate inhabited, kind of having our Prince Charming propose to us." CU detail of yellow diamond on Bulgari tiara, 29 carats in size STORYLINE: HISTORY OF DIAMONDS ON SHOW Diamonds have held a timeless allure for centuries, but where do they originate from and what do those shining stones symbolize in different cultures and through different ages? A diamond exhibition at Rome's 'Scuderie Papale' or "Papal stables', aims to answer a few of the questions, with the help of more than 160 diamonds and stones on show. The gems come from private collections and museums from all over the world including Namibia, Congo, Angola, Botswana, Sierra Leone, India, Place Vendonme in Paris, Via dei Condotti in Rome and 5th Avenue in New York. The diamond industry is well aware of the jewel's modern importance. But the stones have long held a symbolic value - not just as a token of eternal love, but in religious and royal lore. The diamond is born of carbon molecules from deep inside the earth. The closeness of these molecules makes the substance dense, and extremely strong. This strength earned the gem its place in our traditions. Once transformed from a rough stone to a gem, over the years the diamond has represented romance, strength, beauty, wealth, purity and even immortality. Round the corner from the exhibition, Bulgari trades on the modern symbolism of the jewel as a token of eternal love and fidelity, keeping a large stock of diamond rings alongside earrings and necklaces. For instance, the Corona ring is a contemporary interpretation of a classic diamond setting. The mounting of the diamond solitaire takes its inspiration from one of the most romantic symbols, the crown. Smaller craftsmen agree it is the way the stone is presented, rather than the jewel itself that has become significant. Rome jeweler Massimo Rosa has a simple shop in Rome's old district, and he says that the design is the most important, because it is based on the creativity of a craftsman. Meanwhile, the exhibition at the Papal stables museum highlights how the stones adorned kings and aristocrats through history. The display includes a 19th century tiara owned by Pope Gregorio XVI, made of silk, pearls, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and 17,000 small diamonds, all of which come from Brazil. Another exhibit is an 18th century turban owned by the Maharaja di Patiala, Punjab. The turban is covered in rubies. Where the diamond represents power, rubies are a symbol of vital force - the colour of blood. But while the diamond remains a sign of love, wealth and power, there is a price to pay. Behind the diamond's beauty lies a difficult industry, over which many people have lost their lives. And yet, these bright stones have their place now, and will continue to be the stuff of dreams.
