73702 "GERMANY AWAKE!" 1933 DOCUMENTARY ADOLF HITLER AS CHANCELLOR OF GERMANY NAZI PARTY REEL 1
Part 2: https://youtu.be/YtqJX1HrSbU

Created in 1933 by the newly-ascendant Adolph Hitler, "Deutschland Erwacht!" (Germany Awake!) is a recounting of life in Germany after WWI and up until the handover of power from Hindenburg to Hitler in 1933. As a work of propaganda, the film vividly shows the turbulent, inflationary times that followed World War I and attempts to show how Hitler's Germany will be a powerful nation. This portion is Reel 1.

This version of the film is silent with title cards.

In addition to the film, other souvenirs were created with the "Germany Awakes!" motto including a cigarette picture book.

The film begins with a title card congratulating Hitler on his ascension to power on January 30, 1933, when von Hindenburg appointed Hitler Germany's chancellor. Crowds are seen celebrating the event, and a young looking Hitler appears at 1:09, with Hermann Goring at his right. At 1:28 a torchlight procession in the streets of Berlin honors the new chancellor. The card at 2:12 notes that the crowd waved flags of victory in the Brandenburg district. At 2:30 the Brandenburg Gate is shown. At 2:55 the film mourns the passing of storm trooper Hans Eberhard Maikowski, who was killed in an attack allegedly committed by communists. A policeman named Josef Zauritz was badly injured. "All of Germany now honors his deeds through a state funeral" (3:12). The immense funeral is shown next. At 5:12, Hitler gives his first speech as Chancellor at the Berlin Sportpalast; "sports palace." The banner in the rear of the stadium says (more or less) "Keep Germany free of Marxism!" The date is February 10, 1933. At 7:48, a huge rally of National Socialist Organizations is shown, including a march through areas of Berlin felt sympathetic to the communists. At 9:20, Hermann Goring is shown on a balcony, saluting passing columns of Berliner S.A. It is the "day before the election" according to a title card. At 10:16, Hitler is shown the night before the election in Koningsburg. (The election was held on March 5.) At 10:37, a Junkers trimotor lands in the snow; Hitler emerges and is greeted by children holding flowers. At 11:05, another event is shown in what appears to be the sports palace.
