Seven-year-old Jessica Dubroff of Half Moon Bay, California waves to family and friends as she takes off with her father and flight instructor on her quest to set a new record as the youngest pilot ever to fly across America.

The mother of the late 7-year-old pilot, Jessica Dubroff, headed to Cheyenne Thursday night following the death of her daughter in a plane crash. Lisa Blair Hathaway arrived at D-I-A early Thursday evening with Jessica's older brother and younger sister. She said she takes comfort in knowing that Jessica died doing what she loved. Hathaway said her daughter died the way she would want herself or any of her children to go, in a state of joy.

Last night, a group of school children joined city officials in welcoming Jessica to Cheyenne.Many held posters wishing her good luck. During the ceremony, Jessica told reporters about her first experience with flying. Jessica's ill-fated journey began yesterday in Half Moon Bay California, not far from her hometown of Pescadero.

A 7-year-old California girl took off this morning from California in a single-engine cessna for a trip across the nation. Jessica Dubroff of Pescadero, CA hopes to make history as the youngest pilot to make the round- trip flight coast to coast. She left at 7 a.m. with her flying instructor at her side and her dad in the back seat. Jessica has offered to take president Bill Clinton for a ride when she gets to Washington, D.C.

Today is the funeral for Jessica Dubroff, the 7-year-old who died tragically last Thursday trying to make a record-breaking cross-country flight. The funeral will be held in Jessica's hometown of Pescadero, California...about 30 miles south of San Francisco. Jessica's father, Lloyd Dubroff, and her flight instructor, Joe Reid, also died in the crash in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Mourners paid their last respects to Jessica Dubroff's father Wednesday. Funeral services were held for Lloyd Dubroff, who died in the plane crash that also claimed the lives of his 7-year-old daughter and pilot Jessica and her flight instructor. The plane went down April 11 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The crash investigation is still underway, but many believe that the weather conditions...rain and snow...contributed to the accident.
