MALCOLM X: THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM
Malcolm X's deceased daughter Malikah Shabazz laid to rest in New York cemetery
NEW YORK, UNITED STATES - NOVEMBER 27: Malikah Saban Shabazz, one of six of Malcolm X's daughters who died on Monday (Nov. 22) was laid to rest in Ferncliff Cemetery in New York on Saturday (Nov. 27). The funeral prayer for Shabazz was held at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York in Manhattan. Malcolm X's eldest daughters Betty and Ilyasah Shabazz and a crowd of black Muslim Americans around New York attended the Islamic funeral. Shabazz, 56, was reportedly found dead in her Brooklyn home by her daughter on Monday, according to police. They do not suspect foul play. Her death comes less than a week after the two men convicted of killing Malcolm X were exonerated. Bernice King, one of the civil rights icons Martin Luther King, Jr.'s daughters, expressed condolences over Shabazz's death, saying on Twitter she is "deeply saddened" by her death. "My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X," she said. "Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah." (Footage by Lokman Vural Elibol/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
