Clip video 'Loverboy', Mariah Carey CAREY'S CAREER CRASHES All that glitters is not gold for Virgin Records who are poised to cut their losses in spectacular style when they pay off troubled diva Mariah Carey. After widespread media speculation, the singer is set to leave Virgin Records in a deal that will net the star $50 million in compensation. According to the New York Post, lawyers acting for Carey have secured the deal which will make her a free agent following just nine months of work for her new label. Virgin's five-album $100 million deal broken all previous records last year after her bitter split with Sony records but her latest album 'Glitter' failed to meet sales expectations and the film of the same name was a box office disaster. Meanwhile, the star behaviour became increasingly bizarre until she was eventually hospitalised due to mental and physical breakdown in July. According to the Post, Carey's US spokeswoman was unable to elaborate further on the developments. Whilst the stretch-limo load of cash will no doubt soothe the fact that Carey has been sacked, the fact is that 2001 was an awful year for the 31-year-old singer. How the insecure and sometimes difficult star must hanker for those glory days when she was the biggest female artist of the 90s, selling more than 140 million albums worldwide and putting out a near-unending string of hits including 'Heartbreaker,' 'Fantasy' and 'Always Be My Baby,' and winning two Grammys. She rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning five-octave voice; an elastic talent who moved easily from glossy ballads to hip-hop-inspired dance-pop. Born in New York to mixed race parents, she was discovered as an 18-year-old by the Sony svengali Tommy Mottola, who signed the high-powered singer after hearing her demo tape at a party, he later married Carey (20 years his junior) in 1993. But their professional relationship lasted longer than their wedded bliss. The dysfuntional nature was referred to in the semi-autobiographical movie, 'Glitter', and Carey and Mottola divorced in 1998. She has now claimed to have found happiness with new partner Luis Miguel. FEED: SCRIPT: xfa TOP PRODUCER SPINS THE DISCS AT IBIZA STORY: DAVID MORALES LOCATION: IBIZA DATE: AUGUST 1999 Long gone are the days when being a successful musician meant you actually had to play a musical instrument or possess a reasonable singing voice. With the advent of house music, a whole new breed of DJs have forged a name for themselves by remixing tracks and launching them at clubs throughout Europe and America. If the music gets people dancing, chances are it will become a hit on the airwaves several months later. The summer season on the tiny balearic island of Ibiza has proved over the past decade to be the best testing ground for future hits and the favoured destination for celeb DJ's, record producers, supermodels and Europe's glitterati in general. This summer one of the many hot DJ's playing at Ibiza was DAVID MORALES. As a DJ, remixer, producer and co-owner of DEF MIX PRODUCTIONS,(one of the world's most successful dance music production companies), Morales has made a mark all of his own. Aside from spinning records at major clubs around the world, his productions skills have kept him in great demand with top recording artists such as MARIAH CAREY, MICHAEL JACKSON, SEAL, CE-CE PENISTON, JANET JACKSON, TINA TURNER, JAMIROQUAI, WHITNEY HOUSTON, and THE SPICE GIRLS (he wrote and produced their massive hit \"Spice Up Your Life\") to name but a few. Morales' most recent projects include producing the PET SHOP BOYS' latest album \"Nightlife\" which features their current single, \"I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Anymore\". In 1996, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for producing MARIAH CAREY'S \"Fantasy\", followed by a second Grammy nomination in '97 for Best Remixer. In 1998, Morales finally received the coveted award for \"Remixer of the Year\". He has also remixed tracks for countless artists from MADONNA (\"Deeper and Deeper\"), ARETHA FRANKLIN, ETERNAL, BJORK and MAXI PRIEST. In 1997, David and his partner JUDY WEINSTEIN created \"Definity Records\", and hit the chart jackpot with their first release on the label entitled \"The Face -Needin' U\" which soared to Number 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart and enjoyed great success in Europe with a number 8 position on the UK pop chart. The video for The Face topped the MTV Europe Dance Chart at number one. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Morales first discovered his powers as a hit-maker back in 1987 when he started working as a DJ for a new club named \"Red Zone\". His time there, coupled with a trip to the UK, resulted in a series of mixes called \"The Red Zone Mixes\" and launched his name as a legend in the underground. In 1991 Morales started work on his own record, David Morales and the Bad Yard Club \"The Program\", which was released on Mercury Records in '93. The single, \"In De Ghetto\" featuring CRYSTAL WATERS went to the top of the UK Record Mirror Chart. The multi-talented Morales has been a guest DJ on MTV's \"The Grind\" as well as mixing his own Saturday night program called \"Morales at Midnight\" on the New York radio station, WKTU. Nowadays though, he is focusing mainly on his own writing and producing. Robbie exits press conference ROBBIE RICH BEYOND WILDEST DREAMS Pop star Robbie Williams and music giant EMI confirmed on Wednesday that they had reached a recording deal, said to be worth about 80 million pounds ($125.4 million) by sources close to the negotiations. "I am rich beyond my wildest dreams," a beaming Williams told reporters at an impromptu press conference outside his management's offices in London. He appeared alongside EMI label head Tony Wadsworth. A fuller statement would be released shortly, they said. In a press release from the label, Alain Levy and David Munns, EMI Recorded Music's Chairman & CEO and Vice Chairman respectively said, "Robbie Williams is an extremely talented and versatile artist with a wonderful catalogue of albums. We are delighted to have signed a new deal on terms which are good for both parties and to be working with him for many years to come." Robbie's deal is the biggest record contract in British music history. The previous biggest UK deal, which was the £42 million (USD$63 million) paid to Sir Elton John in 1996. The global contract is believed to be second only in value to Michael Jackson's staggering £623 million (USD$935 million) deal with Sony in 1991. Williams, who releases new album 'Escapology' next month, is Britain's biggest male artist and his last album, 'Swing When You're Winning', was a huge hit. EMI have guided his solo career since he left boy band Take That, but their contract with him expired earlier this year. The new deal, thought to be for four albums, is said to include a promise that EMI will help him become a success in the US - a lucrative market he has so far failed to crack. Williams also demanded access to his back catalogue and assurances that EMI would embrace the internet and DVD. He has spent the past six months in LA where he began a romance with Rod Stewart's ex-wife Rachel Hunter. Williams flew in to Heathrow last night from Canada, where he has been shooting the video for his new single 'Feel', with actress Daryl Hannah. "Escapology" is Robbie Williams' fifth album and was largely written by Robbie Williams and his songwriter partner Guy Chambers. The album will be released on Nov 18th with a single 'Feel', which will go to radio in mid October and be released in December. O'Donnell plays the lead character, a marriage-phobic young man forced into wedlock to get his inheritance. Among the brides on offer are RENEE ZELLWEGER and BROOKE SHIELDS. Director GARY SINYOR has taken a very basic premise for his movie. Jimmie Shannon (CHRIS O'DONNELL) values his freedom more than life itself. As his male peers, even his best buddy, Marco (ARTIE LANGE), begin to hook up in marriage, Jimmie continues happily plugging away with his dating lifestyle, in no rush to find the one. When he least expects it, Jimmie crosses paths with the adorable Anne (REN?E ZELLWEGER) and falls in love. After a three-year relationship, Jimmie feels the pressures of commitment and decides to \"give in\", reluctantly proposing to Anne at the most romantic of restaurants. Sensing his uncertainty and angry over his botched and lame attempt at a proposal, Anne dumps Jimmie back into the town known as \"Bachelorville.\" Soon after, Jimmie's grandfather (PETER USTINOV) passes away and wills a $100 million inheritance to his grandson, on the condition he marries before his thirtieth birthday, which is less than twenty-four hours away. After seeking advice from the family attorney, Gluckman (ED ASNER) and stock broker, O'Dell (HAL HOLBROOK), a desperate Jimmie hastily arranges for a priest (JAMES CROMWELL) to wait in the wings while he finds a bride. He tries to reconcile with Anne and several other ex-girlfriends, including Buckley (BROOKE SHIELDS), a well-to-do ex-debutante; Ilana (MARIAH CAREY), an opera singer; Monique (KATHARINE TOWNE), a chef; Daphne (JENNIFER ESPOSITO), a cop; Zoe (STACY EDWARDS), a window dresser; Carolyn (SARAH SILVERMAN), a college student; and Stacy (REBECCA CROSS) a commodities broker. Through these hilarious antics, Jimmie can't help but discover the true meaning of love. Actor Chris O'Donnell, who also serves as executive producer on the film, was looking to develop a romantic comedy from a distinctly male point-of-view. He was attracted by the idea that Jimmie Shannon is confronted for the first time with the idea that he may lose his freedom for the rest of his life and that scares the hell out of him. Director GARY SINYOR puts it more bluntly. The film is about a guy who panics during his proposal and spends the rest of the film realizing that marriage is really about finding your soul mate and being ready to commit simultaneously. In 1993, O'Donnell was nominated for a Golden Globe and won the Chicago Film Critics Award for his starring role opposite Al Pacino's Academy Award winning performance in SCENT OF A WOMAN, directed by Marty Brest. He went on to play 'D'Artagnan' in THE THREE MUSKETEERS, for which he was named the NATO/ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow in 1994. He then adopted an Irish dialect to star in the romantic comedy sleeper CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, and won over audiences worldwide with his stand-out performance as 'Robin' in the highest grossing film of 1995, BATMAN FOREVER. Texan born RENEE ZELLWEGER gave a vulnerable performance as Dorothy Boyd in JERRY MAGUIRE that left critics raving. She was named Best Breakthrough Performer of 1996 by The National Board of Review, received a Blockbuster Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy and was nominated for a SAG Award. Most recently, Zellweger was seen in ONE TRUE THING opposite Meryl Streep and William Hurt. Other film credits include A PRICE ABOVE RUBIES and THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, which won critical acclaim at The Sundance Film Festival and garnered Zellweger a Best Actress Award at the Mar Del Plata Film Festival as well as an Independent Spirit Award nomination. MARIAH CAREY exploded on the global music scene in the early nineties. The 28-year-old star is on the verge of agreeing a contract with EMI Records thought to be worth as much as £80 million (USD$120 million). That would dwarf the previous biggest UK deal, which was the £42 million (USD$63 million) paid to Sir Elton John in 1996. The global contract is believed to be second only in value to Michael Jackson's staggering £623 million (USD$935 million) deal with Sony in 1991. Williams' multi-album deal will mark the end of a bidding war between rival record labels. Sony, BMG and Richard Branson's V2 label were all said to be interested in signing the star. He is Britain's biggest male artist and his last album, 'Swing When You're Winning', was a huge hit. EMI have guided his solo career since he left boy band Take That, but their contract with him expired earlier this year. Williams, who releases new album 'Escapology' next month, toyed with the idea of setting up his own label at one point. The new deal, thought to be for four albums, is said to include a promise that EMI will help him become a success in the US - a lucrative market he has so far failed to crack. Williams flew in to Heathrow last night from Canada, where he has been shooting the video for his new single 'Feel', with actress Daryl Hannah. He is reported to be meeting EMI executives today to finalise the details. EMI's last big-money deal, with US diva Mariah Carey, did not end well. Carey signed a contract with the company's subsidiary Virgin Records America, which would have netted her $70 million for five albums. It's a very interesting way to remember these songs of boleros which have been around for almost 100 years." 5.Clip video 'Amor Amor Amor' 6. SOT LUIS MIGUEL (English) on pressures of living in the spotlight - "Well it's kind of hard sometimes because we are always moving and always going from one point to another. It's part of your life, it becomes part of your life. What happens is when you stop you feel strange. When you feel like something is missing. It's been many years now because I started when I was 10. This definitely a way of living." 9. Clip video 'Amor Amor Amor' 10. SOT LUIS MIGUEL (English) on popularity of Spanish /Latin music: "I really don't know exactly why but I think it is something that is positive and is really good to happen because it's a social thing. Spanish has been growing for so many years now, in the United States and all over the world. It's a very nice language, there are many ways to say 'I love you' and many ways to say things. It's very poetic, it works with music, it's a very nice language." 11. Clip video 'Amor Amor Amor' LUIS, LOVE AND THE LIMELIGHT Despite the onerous responsibilities of being Mariah Carey's lover, Luis Miguel has found time to cut a new album and release a new single. The bronzed Latino crooner has made a large fortune singing slushy love songs and his latest work sticks to this tried and tested formula. Thus, his album is entitled 'Mis Romances' - currently Number Two in the Latino album charts - and the first track to be released from it is called 'Amor, Amor, Amor' (Love, Love, Love). Miguel , 31, is undoubtedly the most successful Latin star of the 90s, winning four Grammys and selling over 36 million records worldwide. This has meant the a non-stop lifestyle of concerts, recordings and promotions. When APTN caught up with him he had touched down in Miami - the Latino capital of the USA - to chat about the new single. He confessed that after 20 years on the road, he was virtually addicted to a hectic schedule: "It's part of your life, it becomes part of your life. What happens is when you stop you feel strange. When you feel like something is missing. It's been many years now because I started when I was 10. This definitely a way of living," he said. Born in Puerto Rico, but raised in Spain and Mexico, Miguel is the son of Italian actress Marcela Basteri and Spanish singer Luisito Rey, himself a Latin star in the 60s. The young Miguel was spotted performing at a birthday party in Veracruz by a Mexican record executive, and was promptly given a record deal. Within a year, under the direction of his father, he was on the way to becoming one of Mexico's biggest teen stars. Miguel won his first Grammy in 1985 - aged 14 years old - for his Spanish language duet with UK singer Sheena Easton on "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" ("I Like You Just The Way You Are"). Developing a more sophisticated image modelled on singers such as Julio Iglesias and Frank Sinatra, Miguel began singing less pop-orientated material, and in the process achieved a multitude of gold and platinum selling singles and albums on the Latin American charts and in September 1996, Miguel received the ultimate accolade, a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. And the secret of his success? "Spanish has been growing for so many years now, in the United States and all over the world. It's a very nice language, there are many ways to say 'I love you' and many ways to say things. It's very poetic, it works with music," he explained. Michael Joseph Jackson was born on the 29th of August 1958 in Gary, Indiana. He was the 7th of nine children. Michael began his musical career at the age of 5 as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 who formed in 1964. In these early years the Jackson 5, Jackie, Jermaine,Tito,Marlon and lead singer Michael played local clubs and bars in Gary Indiana. In 1968 the Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers discovered the Jackson five and from there they got an audition for Berry Gordy of Motown Records. The Jackson 5 signed for Motown and moved to California. Their first 4 singles, "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save", and "I'll Be There" all made US No1 hits. The Jackson 5 recorded 14 albums and Michael recorded 4 solo albums with Motown. In 1977 Michael made his first film debut when he starred in the musical 'The Wiz' playing Scarecrow with Diana Ross in the lead role of Dorothy. It was at this time Michael met Quincy Jones who was doing the score for the film. Michael teamed up with Quincey Jones as his producer for his first solo album with Epic Records. The album titled "Off The Wall" was a big success around the world and the first ever album to release a record breaking 4 No1 singles in the US. In 1982 Michael Jackson released the world's largest selling album of all time, 'Thriller'. This album produced 7 hit singles, breaking yet again more records, and went on to sell over 50 million copies worldwide. In 1983 Michael performed the now legendary moonwalk for the first time on the 'Motown 25 years' anniversary show. 1988, Michael wrote his first autobiography talking for the first time on his childhood and his career. At the end of the 1980s Michael was named 'Artist Of The Decade' for his success off of his 'Thriller' and 'Bad' albums. 1991 saw Michael signed with Sony Music the biggest ever recording contract and released his fourth solo album, 'Dangerous'. He toured the world again in 1992, taking his shows to countries that had never before been visited by a pop/rock artist. Also Michael founded the 'Heal the World Foundation' to help improve the lives of children across the world. In 1994 Michael married Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of rock legend Elvis Presley. The marriage only lasted for 19 months, as they divorced in 1996. 1995 saw Michael release a fifth solo album, 'HIStory', which was a double album, first half new material and second half half greatest hits. In late 1996, Jackson remarried to nurse Debbie Rowe; over the next two years, the couple had two children, son Prince Michael Jackson Jr. and daughter Paris Michael Katherine Jackson. However, Jackson and Rowe divorced in late 1999. In 2001, Jackson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and later held a massive concert at Madison Square Garden celebrating the 30th anniversary of his first solo record. Among many other celebrity guests, the show featured the first on-stage reunion of the Jacksons since the Victory tour. In the wake of September 11, Jackson put together an all-star charity benefit single, "What More Can I Give." His new album, Invincible, was released late in the year, marking the first time he'd issued a collection of entirely new material since Dangerous; it found him working heavily with urban soul production wizard Rodney Jerkins. 'Invincible' debuted at number one and quickly went double-platinum; however, its initial singles, "You Rock My World" and "Butterflies," had rather disappointing showings on the charts, with the latter not even reaching the Top Ten. To compound matters, the expensive "What More Can I Give" single and video were cancelled by Sony when executive producer Marc Schaffel was revealed to work in pornography. Jackson's camp tried to distance the singer from Schaffel, and the various corporations that were attached to it (McDonalds, Sony) claimed they had minimal involvement if any with the song. Sony and Jackson began a press war in the summer of 2002, starting with Jackson's claims that the label asked for $200 million to pay them back for marketing costs. Although they had spent $55 million on his disappointing comeback, Sony released a statement saying that no such request had ever been made. Jackson stewed for a few weeks before launching a press attack on Sony Music chairman Tommy Mottola, calling him "devilish" and making claims that he used racist language and held down black artists. Many Sony artists, including Mariah Carey and Ricky Martin, defended Mottola, but Jackson and his family maintained that racism ended their professional relationship. From that point, Jackson's career took an extreme turn towards the bizarre, starting with MTV's annual Video Awards. When Britney Spears presented him with a birthday cake, an offhand remark about being the artist of the millennium inspired a rambling Jackson to accept a meaningless trophy (which everyone presenting onstage received) as an actual Artist of the Millennium award. Next came accusations from a promotional company over his promises of a tour and several appearances that he then cancelled. Jackson arrived in court late, gave a drowsy testimony, and inspired gasps when he removed a surgical mask to reveal his nose had caved in from a botched cosmetic surgery. Only days later, German fans were horrified when Jackson came to the balcony of his hotel suite and briefly dangled a squirming baby, his son Prince Michael the II, over the edge with one arm. Although he apologized the next day, claiming he had gotten caught up in the moment, this only did more to cement the King of Pop's public image as an out-of-control millionaire. CLEARANCE DETAILS

But she's achieved so much as a performer, a young performer, and it's about her record sales and stuff. So she's worked hard enough to achieve this Aretha Franklin award. And most people they mix up the reasons that she thinks she's getting it. She's getting it because she worked her butt off, okay. Say What." 11.Camera cutaway to pan of area. 12.Camera cutaway. 13. Only if you are focused and you are experimentalist so to speak, if you really like to do a lot of different stuff, really research music. I think it started in 1996; I met Dr Dre through a mutual acquaintance. That acquaintance was managing a group on "Aftermath" when "Aftermath" first began and I submitted a song through him and Dre liked the song and he wanted to know who I was. He had a group at the time and he wanted to know if I wanted to be part of the group, and I declined. And then when he met me he said I wasn't good for the group, but he definitely wanted me to stay around as a songwriter, so I did and I stayed around and wrote for "Aftermath" for five years, before he decided to give me a deal." 21. Impromptu performance by Isyss 22.SOT Isyss (This is a great distinction, how did you feel when they called your name.) "The whole moment was just surreal. It was just like, freeze-frame life real quick, like, is this happening right now. Even before I was like, calm down, okay, what are you doing? It was going. It was really nice." 23.SOTRah Digga: "To have an awards show that honors you know, women of soul, women of color. How could you be a woman, especially a black woman in the business and not come out and see a show like this." 24. Music clip - 'Rock the Boat' by Aaliyah STORYLINE: ROW OVER ASHANTI AWARD R&B singer Ashanti accepted entertainer of the year honours at Saturday's Lady of Soul Awards despite complaints from some music fans that she didn't deserve the title. More than 28,000 signatures had been gathered on an Internet petition decrying the decision to give entertainer of the year to Ashanti. Ashanti didn't directly mention the Internet controversy during her brief speech. Patti LaBelle, who presented the award to Ashanti, said the 21-year-old newcomer was "extremely deserving of this wonderful recognition." The annual celebration honours the accomplishments of female recording artists in R&B, Hip Hop, Rap and Gospel. Ashanti, who led all other performers with five nominations, also captured one award: best new solo artist. She has sold more than 2.3 million copies of her self-titled debut album, released earlier this year. Among her hits are the singles 'Foolish' and 'Happy,' and she has become a sensation with numerous TV appearances and magazine pictorials. Ashanti's critics complain that she's not talented enough to deserve the entertainer of the year honour, especially since it is named after the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin Previous winners include Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey , TLC and Jill Scott. The late singer Aaliyah's single 'Rock the Boat' won two awards: best R&B solo single and song of the year. In the group category, Destiny's Child won best R&B/soul album of the year for 'Survivor' and best R&B single for 'Emotion.' Angela Bassett won top acting honours for her work in films with the "Lena Horne Award for Outstanding Career Achievements." Bassett's long list of film credits include her Oscar-nominated role as Tina Turner in 'What's Love got to Do with It?' and most recently 'Sunshine State.' While Destiny's Child, the definitive R&B girl group were once again honoured, the shape of things to come was also highlighted in the sexy shape of Isyss, who picked up its first "Lady of Soul Award" as best new act for R&B Soul or group, band or duo. Dr Dre protege,Truth Hurts, is one of the newer artists on the R&B landscape. She has a background in opera, and she is produced by the hip-hop impresario Dr Dre. Truth worked as a songwriter for Dr. Dre and "Aftermath Records" for five years before the rapper-producer signed her to a record deal. The singer-songwriter is currently touring, and has a single climbing the charts. Finally, packing a punch are Exhale, who have heavy weight backing, in the gigantic form of Evander Holyfield. The former boxing champ has formed a label to promote the ing?nues. The other 'Lady of Soul' winners were: R&B/soul album of the year, solo artist: 'Songs in A Minor,' by Alicia Keys. R&B/soul or rap music video: 'One Minute Man,' by Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott. R&B/soul or rap new artist, for group, band or duo: 'Night & Day,' by Isyss featuring Jadakiss.
