APTN file Pamela Anderson being interviewed STORYLINE: TOMMY LEE GAVE ME HEPATITS C, SAYS PAMELA ANDERSON 'VIP' star Pamela Anderson has hepatitis C, she confirmed Wednesday (21MAR02). "It is true I have hepatitis C and have undergone outpatient treatment" at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center, the former 'Baywatch' star said in a statement issued through her publicist, Marleah Leslie. Anderson claimed she contracted the disease by sharing a tattoo needle with her ex-husband, Tommy Lee. "He never disclosed it to me during our marriage," she alleged in the statement. Anderson is locked in a custody battle with Lee over their two children. "Her actions today are a clear attack on Tommy and hopefully she will realize that she is only doing more harm to her children and herself by trying to use the media as a tool to hurt Tommy and their two boys," Lee's publicist, Beth Katz, said in a statement. About 3.9 million Americans have hepatitis C, which is spread through blood-to-blood contact, most commonly through sharing needles for intravenous drug use or through unprotected sex, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In some patients, it can cause severe liver damage. It causes inflammation of the liver, which can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure. About 8,000 to 10,000 people in the United States die each year from complications due to hepatitis C infection. Current treatments work by boosting the immune system rather than attacking the virus, and aren't successful in many patients.

Promo shot Pamela Anderson in tight leather outfit (file) 3. Sot Pamela Anderson : "I don't like to be a preacher or anything but I think if you just show somebody then people see what is out there, like people see what goes into making a fur coat and all the stuff that happens, they don't have an idea, it is kept from people. So that is what PETA is about just giving an awareness to everybody, and then they just change their own mind." ALLEGATIONS FLY IN ANDERSON CUSTODY CASE The pneumatic sex symbol Pamela Anderson has made serious allegations about the violent treatment she claims she and their two young sons endured at her former husband's hands. The former Baywatch actress accuses Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee of subjecting their children to physical and mental abuse, including an incident in which he allegedly dangled his son in front of his "temperamental" 130lb rottweiller. The allegations, vigorously denied by Lee, emerged in new legal documents after Anderson filed a court motion to gain full custody rights to their two sons, Brandon, five and Dylan, three. In the papers, she claims Lee severely beat her as she breast-fed Dylan when he was seven months old; made their children watch disturbing television images of the World Trade Center attacks as well as violent programmes and videos; took their "traumatised" sons on a boating holiday shortly after a young child drowned at Brandon's birthday party, encouraged the boys to swear and call their mother a "freak" after he became jealous of her new relationship with musician Kid Rock. In the papers filed at Los Angeles Supreme Court Anderson, 34, says she wants a judge to rule that Lee, 39, must undergo a psychiatric evaluation. She alleges she had been forced to begin the bitter legal battle for her children's emotional safety. In the papers, she says: "In the past few months Tommy has embarked on a campaign of threats, harrassment and a general lack of cooperation. Tommy's behaviour has deteriorated to such an extent that I am afraid for the emotional well-being of the children while in his care." The papers continue: "Given Tommy's documented violence towards me, for which he was incarcerated, I believe the court should award me sole legal custody of the children." The couple married in 1995 and divorced three years later. Lee was jailed for four months in 1998 for attacking his wife - an assault detailed in the court papers, where she alleges Lee was jealous of the attention she gave the children. "I tried to reason and explained it was necessary for me to attend to the needs of our babies and I could not focus entirely on him. This did not please Tommy, who erupted in a jealous rage," the papers say. Anderson claims that his behaviour has grown worse since she began a relationship with Kid Rock, who is referred to in the papers as Bob Richie. "I suspect Tommy's jealousy over my new relationship has sparked his recent anger, harassment and breakdown of communication and co-parenting." Her sons would return from visits to their father and called her a "freak", she alleges. "On one occasion the boys said their father had told them that he used to be friends with Mr Richie but now hates him because 'he stole mommy away from us'. "I cannot imagine any reason for telling such a thing to the children other than to turn them against Mr Richie and me and to torture them emotionally." Lee is a poor role model for the boys, she claims. "Tommy freely uses disrespectful and obscene language and does so in front of our children. The children come home after their visits and use inappropriate language and swear words. Her sons no longer wanted to visit their father, she claims. "Often when they come home they suffer from nightmares for days. They typically scream, cry and cling to me when they know they have to go to Tommy's house and tell me they do not want to go. Brandon has told me that Tommy hurts him and pinches him and Dylan. Dylan has told me that he hates me for making him go to his father's." Lee's publicist, Beth Katz at Dan Lores Communications NY, was unavailable for comment.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: USA: PAMELA ANDERSON
TAPE_NUMBER: EN9917/A IN_TIME: 11:11:54 LENGTH: 01:59 SOURCES: APTN RESTRICTIONS: PERSONALITY RIGHTS MUST BE CLEARED FEED: SCRIPT: xfa LA, APRIL 27TH PAMELA GETS A FEW THINGS OFF HER CHEST FOR PETA PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) held a book signing for Ingrid Newkirk's "YOU CAN SAVE THE ANIMALS: 251 SIMPLE WAYS TO STOP THOUGHTLESS CRUELTY" at WOODY HARRELSON's oxygen bar, O2, Tuesday night. One of the few high profile guests to turn up was PAMELA ANDERSON LEE. Although writer Ingrid Newkirk was one of the co-founders of the organization, everyone wanted books signed by Pamela. Other guests at the event included DAN MATTHEWS, PETA head of Communications, comedian BILL MAHER and JAMES CROMWELL of Babe and LA Confidential fame. It occurred days after a report that an Orlando-based museum is aiming to get its hands on Pamela Anderson's breasts - or at least the implants that were recently removed. Ripley's Believe It or Not! wants to buy the implants to display at its Hollywood museum. They would be included in an exhibit on what people do to themselves for beauty's sake, said curator Christine Barnes. She also added that the exhibit will include displays of the age-old and excruciating Chinese practice of foot-binding, corsets and body piercing. However, the museum's plan holds little water, as Ms. Lee's spokeswoman, MARLEAH LESLIE, has already firmly stated that the implants are not for sale, citing Ripley's efforts as a publicity stunt. Leslie also said that the company had not contacted Ms. Lee. "She is not considering donating her implants," Ms. Leslie said. "She is not considering selling them." Lee, 31, underwent surgery last week in Los Angeles to reduce her 37F chest to a far less back-straining 34D. In the classic film The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman is given a one-word piece of advice for the future: plastics. Pamela Anderson Lee took that advice to her chest. With some acting talent and some major surgery, she has become one of the most sought-after females on the planet. Pamela Anderson Lee wasn't always the bombshell she is today. She was raised in a small town in British Columbia (even her birth made headlines - she was the first centennial baby born in the area), and claims she was something of a wild child. She credits her eccentric grandfather for instilling in her a lifelong passion for what she calls her "New Age way of thinking," a philosophy that includes "a fascination with mythology, fairy tales, crystals, meditation, and dream interpretation." Her first big break came out of the blue in 1989, while she was attending a professional football game in Vancouver. The cameraman focused in on her, and amplified her then less considerable, but still noteworthy assets on a Jumbotron screen for all to see. Pamela happened to be wearing a Labatt's T-shirt, and she created such a sensation that Labatt's hired her to do commercials. Playboy soon called, and her career was launched. Hollywood, TV roles, life on the beach and surgical enhancements all followed in quick succession. She appeared in Married With Children, Home Improvement, and, of course, Baywatch, and she also revisited the cover of Playboy. Although Pamela's Barb Wire, the futuristic tale of a post-feminist action hero, tanked at the box office, pre-feminist Pam claimed that she didn't care if she ever made another movie. For all her fame, she has always insisted that all she ever wanted to be was a wife and mother, and with that end in mind, she dated some of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, including Dean "Superman" Cain, Sylvester Stallone, and Scott Baio. She surprised friends and family when she married Tommy Lee, Mftley Crue's much-tattooed drummer, after a whirlwind four-day courtship. Though she was initially repulsed by Lee, and his habit of calling her 40 times a day, she fell in love with him after he followed her down to Cancun. They were married on the beach, the groom wearing swimming trunks, the bride a white thong bikini. Their relationship has been nothing if not bizarre from the very beginning. The couple suspended a swing over Tommy's piano in the living room of their Los Angeles home, so that Pamela could swing back and forth over his head, naked, while he composed music. Tommy didn't buy Pamela a diamond wedding ring because she believes that big diamonds are really about the size of a man's insecurity over his "little thing." Instead, she had her husband's name tattooed on her finger. He had hers tattooed on his penis, among other places. The couple has been tabloid fodder since the day they married. Stills depicting them engaged in a thoroughly intimate sexual act, which were extracted from a videotape they claim was stolen from their house in 1995, were published in French Penthouse. The video later surfaced again in its entirety on the World Wide Web in late 1997. The Lees made an aborted attempt to sue the Internet Entertainment Group, the company that provided the footage to its customers, for invasion of privacy and for receiving stolen property but failed. Dating early in the marriage, rumors began circulating that Tommy was too controlling, that he kept Pamela in her trailer during the filming of 1996's Barb Wire, continually having sex, holding up production (she admits to the sex, but not to delaying production), and that he had been physically abusive. Initially, Pam denied the accusations, but it came as no surprise to anyone when she filed for divorce just shy of their two-year anniversary. The Lees almost immediately reconciled, and welcomed their second child (son Brandon was born in 1996), a son named Dylan, in late 1997. Following an incident in which she called 911 to report that Tommy had attacked her during an argument (the alleged assault led to his arrest on spousal and child abuse charges and illegal firearm possession), Pamela filed for divorce for the second time, also petitioning for legal custody of the children. On the professional front, Pamela returned to the small screen in 1998, as the star of the syndicated actioner V.I.P.
