Pilot Joseph Algranti ejecting from his Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV) just before impact during a training exercise at the Ellington Air Force Base, Houston, Texas, USA, on 8th December 1968. Algranti had taken the vehicle to 207 metres altitude to begin a lunar landing simulation run but wind shear exceeded the craft's aerodynamic control limits causing it to descend. Algranti ejected at 30 metres and only suffered minor bruising but the vehicle was lost. The LLTV was used to practice landing techniques used by Apollo's Lunar Module (LM).
