California) Ground views of The Ivanpah Solar Fields throughout the day from morning to sunset. The Ivanpah Electric Generating System is a concentrated solar thermal plant stretching into Mojave Desert, across state lines (Nevada and California). At sunset the last rays of the sun illuminate the hills which border the desert. Wide shots of traffic along the highway which cuts through the desert Footage shows various wide, medium and close ups of the solar fields and transmission lines. 00:00:50 - Good shot of sign on side of road ""Welcome to The Heart of the Mojave"" ""Pulic lands Managed by Needles Field Office"" Limited Use Area, Vehicle Use allowed only on signed open roads - no cross country travel. Sun, animation
Animation of the Sun, showing its turbulent surface and atmosphere as seen at ultraviolet wavelengths. Cooler, dense plumes of plasma (such as filaments and prominences) occur above the visible surface of the Sun, and are seen in the upper chromosphere and lower transition region. The bright areas show high-density regions of plasma.

SOLAR SYSTEM NEWSER (04/21/1998)
Three independent astronomy teams have simultaneous evidence of a forming new solar system. A star NASA identifies as "H-R-47-96" is enveloped in disks of dust similar to the way Earth formed over 4-billion-years-ago. The findings will also be published in Wednesday's issue of the journal of Nature.
New Horizons space probe at Pluto
Animation of the New Horizons space probe as it passes the dwarf planet Pluto and its largest moon Charon. New Horizons was launched in January 2006, and arrives at Pluto on 14th July 2015. It was the fastest object ever launched from Earth. It will speed past Pluto at a closest distance of some 10,000 kilometres, traveling at velocity of nearly 14 kilometres per second relative to the dwarf planet. It will spend the time around its closest approach mapping the surface of Pluto and Charon, studying their atmospheres (if any) and trying to analyse the chemical make-up of the bodies. After passing Pluto, New Horizons will continue into the Kuiper Belt, and if suitable bodies on its path are found, study those as well.
