Police kick and beat an unruly protester resisting arrest. London Police on horseback attempt to restore order during demonstration, forcing horses through crowd of protestors. Various shots of the protesters and high angle shot of them gathered in the Square. Police drafted to the area walk towards the Square. Sit down protesters include Shelagh Delaney, Vanessa Redgrave and John Osborne. Sir Herbert Reid (Reed?) is also amongst the demonstrators. A man of the cloth stands up to speak to the crowd. They are practising tactics Gandhi made famous - passive resistance. Various shots of police holding back crowds and dragging protesters across a road. Police strain to keep crowds back. [May 68: a wave of protest that has crossed the world]

Raw footage of student protests against ROTC at San Francisco State University Student sit in in the hallway of the university presidents office. Student activist speeches on campus. Students marching into the administrative building yelling “ROTC off our campus”. University President Dr. John Summerskill is interviewed by news reporters. He is asked if the students opinions are important to him and if the chancellor and board of trustees could over rule whatever decision he does make. He gives statements claiming he supports the students’ freedom of speech and that he also supports affirmative action and scholarships for minority students. He also gives statements about the need to return to education in the time when man students are busy protesting the Vietnam War. Acting president Hayakawa gives statements about quelling student radical activity (anti vietnam, etc), the bombing on campus, and the AFT strike. About the AFT strike, he assures absent teachers will have their pay docked and/or be fired. He also answers questions about the prospect of a Black Studies/ ethnic studies department potentially headed by Dr. Nathan Hale. Another statement is made about evidence that student groups purchased rifles. On campus picketing march in support of AFT (American Federation of Teachers) is met with police violence (beatings and arrests). A black student is beaten to the ground with night sticks. Summerskill gives statement about minority group teachers. Student leader is interviewed. Picketer is interviewed.

anti war film - In 1969, as a protest against the Vietnam war, American serviceman George Caputo left his unit and sought asylum in Columbia University’s St. Paul’s Chapel. He was supported by a number of radical student organizations and individuals.
