--SUPERS--\nJeff Wadlow\nDirector\n\n --SOT--\nJeff Wadlow/ Director: "We did a couple things, you know, when we wrote the script, I wanted to make sure the characters felt real, and I wanted it to feel like they had really real relationships because ultimately the game is going to exploit those relationships and try to find the cracks within them. The other thing we did is once I cast the six leads, I took them to Mexico for 24 hours. We all got in a van, I said let's go on our own little Spring Break. I gave them cell phones and I said just shoot stuff while we're down there. And actually you can see our trip in the credit sequence. That's how we constructed that."\n\n -----END-----CNN.SCRIPT-----\n\n --KEYWORD TAGS--\nENTERTAINMENT FILM MOVIE BOX OFFICE\n\n

Mike Wadlow fell asleep at City Pier in Port Angeles while he was squid fishing last week. He awoke to two teens brutally attacking him, kicking him in the face and destroying his belongings.
\n

\n
Now, the two teens are in jail after attacking the homeless man. The incident has received a lot of attention, after one of the suspects posted a video of it to social media.
\n

\n

\n
In the wake of the attack, the community is coming together to support the man turning an instance of hate into an outpouring of love.
\n

\n
I've been here for about two and a half years, and I want to live here, said 61-year-old Wadlow. You know, I love the ocean and I love the people.
\n

\n
Although he is homeless, Wadlow said he has always felt safe in Port Angeles. But last week in the early morning hours, he experienced an unprovoked act of violence.
\n

\n
I fell asleep and woke up to somebody kicking me in the face, said Wadlow. At first I thought I was having a nightmare.
\n

\n
A local teenager, who Wadlow had never met, was attacking him with what police say appears to be a gun. They cannot confirm the gun is real because they have not recovered it.
\n

\n
The assault was captured in video posted by one of the two suspects to social media, which is now being used as evidence in the case.
\n

\n
He just kept coming back, hitting me, pistol whipping me, and threatening to kill me, said Wadlow. I was just terrified. I just wanted him to stop.
\n

\n
Eventually the two teens did leave, but not before throwing all of Wadlow's belongings into the harbor.
\n

\n
All my clothes and all my fishing gear, just what little things I had, said Wadlow.
\n

\n
He said some of the other belongings he lost include a stash of money he was planning to save for a car, a new tablet he had purchased, and clothes for winter.
\n

\n
I could care less about the stuff, I just wanted them to leave me alone, said Wadlow.
\n

\n
Wadlow said the crime is not a reflection of the people in Port Angeles, who he describes as generous and welcoming.
\n

\n
Wadlow reported the crime to the Port Angeles Police Department the afternoon of the attack, with bruises on his body and cracked ribs. Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith said he is glad that Wadlow reported the crime, adding that when he saw the video, his first thought was how awful it must have been for Wadlow.
\n

\n

\n
This is a person that's been victimized who hopefully will recover, but you know this is life-altering stuff, Smith said.
\n

\n
Smith said violence against strangers is rare in the city, which he said is generally a safe place.
\n

\n
This is stranger violence, said Smith. This is a place if you'd asked me, Would I be safe at 5:30 at City Pier in the morning? I'd say absolutely.
\n

\n
Smith said the video was posted to social media just as police were preparing to arrest the two teens for the crime. He said they have dealt with both teens before one more than the other.
\n

\n
They've had opportunities, with their involvement with the criminal justice system, to make different decisions, said Smith.
\n

\n
While the decision of these strangers had a negative impact on Wadlow, the choices of another stranger would soon do the opposite.
\n

\n
A friend of mine told me, There's some girl running around looking for you, said Wadlow.
\n

\n
The girl his friend was referring to is Brianna Gillett, a Port Angeles resident who said when she saw the video of the attack, she was sick to her stomach. She knew something needed to be done. She knew she needed to find Wadlow.
\n

\n
I wanted him to see the good in this community because there's so much good, said Brianna Gillett.
\n

\n
She has been with Wadlow every day since she found him.
\n

\n
He's funny, and he's just kind of a goofball, said Gillett. He's sweet, he's so sweet."
\n

\n
She knew many people in the community wanted to help him, so she took it upon herself to make sure he received the support that the community wanted to give.
\n

\n
The community has come together and everybody just wants to do so much for him, said Gillett.
\n

\n
She connected him to a group called Healthy Families secured him a hotel room to sleep in, connected him with a salon that gave him a free haircut, purchased him clothing, and started a GoFundMe to help him get back on his feet and into permanent housing.
\n

\n

\n
I feel better, it just reminds me of who I was at one time, said Wadlow of his new haircut.
\n

\n
The support has been overwhelming for Wadlow, he said. He was brought to tears by the fact that so many people have shown him love and support.
\n

\n
Im grateful, grateful that people care, said Wadlow.
\n

\n
When asked what Wadlow will do next, he said he has thought about it a lot and is a bit overwhelmed at the moment. He said he will do the next right thing and will not take any of opportunities for granted.
\n

\n
You know, a lot of doors have opened up for me, said Wadlow. So, Im just going to take them one at a time and be grateful for it.
\n

\n
The two teens are in jail and both have bail set at $100,000.
\n

\n
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Wadlow.
\n

\n

\n
Station Notes/Scripts:
\n
Mike Wadlow was sleeping here at the Port Angeles City pier when he was attacked by a teenager holding what police say appears to be a gun. It's a moment, Mike does not want to relive, but it's a moment that's led to a special relationship and a new chapter in his life.
\n

\n
Port Angeles is a place Mike Wadlow has always felt safe.
\n

\n
"I've been here for about 2.5 years and I want to live here. I love the ocean and I love the people."
\n

\n
Although he is homeless, he feels a sense of security.
\n
But last week in the early morning hours that changed.
\n

\n
"I fell asleep and woke up to somebody kicking me in the face. Titles read: 'The World's YOUNGEST GIANT!'

Chicago, United States of America.

C/U of an enormous foot in a shoe. A young woman measures the length and breadth of it. We then see that the foot belongs to 17-year-old Robert Wadlow, who is 8 feet four inches tall. His foot is as long as two of one of the girl's.

Robert stands against a wall with four young women either side of him. He really is incredibly tall. He puts his arms out to the side and the women all try to reach up and touch them. They all walk out of the doorway, with Robert having to duck down to get under it. Robert stands beside his 6 foot tall father.

Cataloguer's note: Robert is really treated as a freak. I think this item is melancholy, despite the jaunty soundtrack. 70064 "CROSS COUNTRY TO TULSA" 1929 HOME MOVIE TRAVEL AIR 6000 AIRCRAFT & TRAVEL AIR FACTORY
This fascinating 16mm silent home movie from 1929 was shot by either Truman Wadlow or his twin brother Newman Wadlow, who were both pilots from Wichita, Kansas. Both served as test pilots for the famed Travel Air Company, an airplane manufacturer. Truman also operated an airplane sales outlet in St. Joseph, Missouri during 1928. Newman Wadlow participated in the Ford Reliability Tour in 1929, and Truman flew in 1930. The brothers operated the Wadlow Bros. Flying Service Co. in Wichita in the early 1930s. This film includes aerial footage taken from the plane of the rural landscape below and typical 1920s fashion. This film and others featuring the Wadlow brothers were gifted to Periscope Film by Nancy Stoll and Betty Rugh, Truman Wadlow's twin daughters.

There are actually two distinct movies on this reel -- the first is "Cross Country to Tulsa" which runs up to about the (4:14) mark and features many intertitles. The second film is a home movie without title cards. Title page (0:09). Two men pose for camera wearing 20s-era wool suits and felt fedoras (0:13). The men get into Travel Air 6000 (later known as the Curtiss-Wright 6B) executive aircraft, tail NC9938, S/N 1085 (0:22). (Note: records indicate this plane was later owned by Philips Petroleum Co. and later Edward A Brennan who operated it in Alaska; it was stricken from records in 1948.) POV from cockpit of takeoff, airport below, water tower (0:28). Aerial view Travel Air Factory from the north, sun glare reflects off of small river, vast fields (0:41). Aerial view Douglas, Kansas - rural town, residential homes, vast farmland (1:12). Details of Travel Air 6000 cabin interior details (1:28). Aerial view of Bartlesville, Oklahoma in distance (1:45). Aerial view of Bartlesville Airport, rows of homes in city, smoke trail billows into sky from factory (1:53). Interior of cockpit, close-up portrait of one of the pilots (2:37). Aerial view of petroleum storage tank farm (2:47). Tulsa Municipal Airport, Spartan Aircraft Company logo and Safe Way Airlines seen on roof of airport buildings (3:17). Two men from beginning of film (probably Truman and Newman) pose in front of Travel Air in front of hangar at Tulsa Municipal Airport (3:53). Men in 20s-era wool suits and felt fedoras horse around in font of the camera at a large rural property, a woman with cropped hair cut, cap, and 20s-era women’s fashion (4:15). Camera pans property, bare bones of house or building being constructed on property (5:12). Crowd of men and women gather at airfield for test flights of what appear to be cable towed glider aircrafts, these appear to be Detroit G1 Gulls. The G1 is an American high wing, cable-braced primary glider that was manufactured by the Detroit Aircraft Corporation during the Great Depression. Another Travel Air 6000 is shown, tail NC483N, owned by Alton Walker of Missouri and later sold to Mexico (5:47).

Travel Air Manufacturing Co. was an aircraft manufacturer established in Wichita, Kansas, United States in January 1925 by Clyde Cessna, Walter Beech, and Lloyd Stearman. An early leader in single-engine, light-aircraft manufacturing, from 1925 to 1931, Travel Air was the largest-volume aircraft manufacturer in the United States in 1928 -- the principal contributor to Wichita becoming named the "Air Capital City" by the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce. Travel Air produced the trend-setting Travel Air Mystery Ship racer, which forced radical changes in U.S. military aircraft. Travel Air also developed early small airliners, including Delta Airlines' first, and the first civilian plane to reach Hawaii by air. With Walter Beech as its last President, the company was acquired by Curtiss-Wright Corporation, and moved to St. Louis, Missouri, before production ceased in the Great Depression. However, Beech returned to Wichita in 1932, acquired the abandoned Travel Air factory, and resumed production under his own name, with the Beech Aircraft Corporation — producing what would have been the 17th Travel Air model, but as the Beech Model 17 "Staggerwing."

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! 70114 1930 HOME MOVIE NATIONAL AIR RACES VIEWS FROM CHRYSLER BUILDING TRAVEL AIR FACTORY
This fascinating 16mm silent home movie was shot by either Truman Wadlow or his twin brother Newman Wadlow, who were both pilots from Wichita, Kansas. Both served as test pilots for the famed Travel Air Company, a noted airplane manufacturer. This film seems to date to 1930, as it has images of the 1930 National Air Races in Chicago which were held at Curtiss-Reynolds Airport on August 23rd to September 1st.

The film starts with images that appear to be shot from the Chrysler Building -- the images at 4:16 show the observation deck interior. The Chrysler was only two years old at the time this was filmed. At :51, shots of a large balloon being inflated, possibly at the National Air Races in Chicago, followed by a flyover by what appear to be Navy biplanes. At 1:45, a hangar is visible that appears to have Rutledge painted on the roof, this is the Rutledge Hangar at the Stanley Jones Airport in Calgary, Alberta. At 2:06, aerial footage shot out of the enclosed cabin of an airplane. At 2:08, also shot out of a plane, a large crowd is held back by what appear to be Canadian mounted police. At 2:50, images shot at what might be a dude ranch, and at 3:11 an unidentified boy poses with a horse. At 3:39 the large camp stove is visible on the range. At 3:58, the wing of NC 401H, one of the Ford Trimotors involved in the Ford Reliability Tour is seen. A crowd gathered around the airplane and what appears to be a Cessna Model A (4:04). At (4:27) more aerial footage, this time showing mountains down below. At (5:10), fascinating shot showing what appears to be a Curtiss "pusher" type airplane in flight. At (5:11) a Bellanca Airbus is shown, first built in 1930. At (5:32) images of the Curtiss-Reynolds Airport set up for the National Air Races. A Travel Air 10-D, tail NC 471W is visible at (5:37). The hangar in the background at (5:44) is likely part of the Travel Air Factory in Wichita. At (5:55) two pilots pose in front of what might be a Travel Air Model 10. It's likely the person on the left is one of the Wadlow brothers. At (6:01) side view of the Model 10. (6:05) interior of the Travel Air hangar; the plane appearing briefly at (6:22) was truly famous -- the Travelair Mystery Ship in Texaco livery. This plane tail NR-1313 was purchased by the Texaco Company for Frank Hawks as "Texaco 13" and set numerous long-distance records both in the United States and internationally. At (6:34) skyscraper during construction, not clear what city but seems likely it is New York. At (6:55) additional footage shot from the Chrysler Building. At (7:26) more footage of the National Air Races. At (8:39) biplanes form an "A" in the sky, probably part of a USA formation. At (8:43) panning shot showing the grandstands with various planes in the foreground including a racer with EBVO painted on the wings. At (9:12) a Curtiss XF6C-6 known as the Page Navy Racer (after pilot US Marine Corps Captain Arthur H. Page) which flew in the Thompson Trophy Race. On the 17th lap of that race, Capt. Page apparently succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning in the air and crashed the aircraft; he tragically died of his injuries later that night. At (9:30) shots into the cockpit of a large plane, possibly one of the trimotors on the Ford Reliability Tour but more likely (based on the round window visible at one point) from the Bellanca Airbus.

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
